Summary

The author argues that the current Republican Party has shifted towards extreme ideologies, drawing concerning parallels with the 1938 German Nazi Party, and has abandoned its traditional principles of law and order.

Abstract

The author reflects on their political journey, initially unable to vote for their preferred candidate and later registering as a Republican due to their more practical policies. However, the author expresses deep concern over the recent transformation of the Republican Party, which they claim now mirrors the ideologies of the 1938 German Nazi Party in several respects, such as undermining the Constitution, promoting extreme anti-abortion stances, and scapegoating minorities. Despite these alarming similarities, the author notes that the GOP does not align with the 1938 Nazi economic policies. The article suggests that the party's rhetoric and policies, including those on immigration and gun violence, no longer reflect a commitment to the Constitution or reality. The author concludes by emphasizing the importance of voting for candidates who uphold democratic values, regardless of party affiliation.

Opinions

  • The Republican Party is attempting to cover up the attempted overthrow of the Constitution.
  • The extreme anti-abortion stance of the GOP is likened to an attempt to reinstitute slavery, in violation of the 13th Amendment.
  • The GOP has deviated from being a party of law and order, now applying these principles selectively.
  • The author acknowledges that the GOP does not endorse the economic or property ownership views of the 1938 Nazis.
  • The party is accused of blaming various minorities for societal issues, not just Jews as was the case with the Nazis.
  • Some Republicans are advocating for voting law changes reminiscent of those in 1938.
  • The GOP is seen as promoting gun violence.
  • The party is perceived as being in denial about immigration and Trump's electoral loss.
  • The author will not support any candidate who does not respect and support the Constitution.
  • The author believes that the risk posed by the current GOP is to democracy itself, as indicated by the Cheney loss being framed as a battle between democracy and fascism.
  • The author suggests reading William Shirer's "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" to draw parallels between the rise of Hitler and the rise of the MAGA movement.
  • The author references Dan Pfeiffer's "The Big Lie," highlighting the influence of a massive Right-Wing media apparatus funded by billionaires and its role in spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories.
  • The author cites a conservative voter's criticism of Trump's impact on the Republican Party, questioning where the honor in the party has gone.
  • The author points to an article suggesting that Republicans have a significantly higher excess death rate than Democrats, implying this as a consequence of the party's current direction.

POLITICAL EROSION

The Republican Party No Longer Exists

Republican Party mostly equals the 1938 German Nazi Party

I was not allowed to vote in my first primary because of my age and laws at the time. I made the mistake of voting for Lyndon Johnson. I could see later that his domestic policies sounded nice, but would not work, and he was in over his head with Vietnam.

I registered Republican for the next primary. They were for law and order and had more workable policies. A few would not work, but not as many as the Democrats.

That is no longer true. Many GOP points and actions now match the 1938 German Nazi Party (link is in the References section). They make Barry Goldwater look like a moderate. I never dreamed that I would put Republicans and extremists in the same sentence. Here are some examples.

  • The House and Senate Republicans are trying to cover up the attempted overthrow of the Constitution.
  • They are trying to reinstitute slavery in violation of the 13th amendment with the extreme anti-abortion stance
  • They are no longer a party of law and order, except for other people
  • To be fair, they do not agree with 1938 Nazi points on economics or property ownership
  • They blame every minority there is instead of just Jews
  • Some are promoting voting law changes — about the same as 1938
  • They promote gun violence
  • They no longer recognize reality, like immigration and Trump’s loss

Some of these are not their officially stated policies and goals but are the results of reckless rhetoric and policies.

Illegal immigration is not much different now than in the 60s when we had boat people coming from Cuba. We just have more publicity with Fox and others emphasizing it while ignoring other problems. No Republican president was able to solve it since then and none will now.

Trump thought he had the election fixed. However, he failed to take into account the number of voters who voted for him the first time but saw reality and switched to anybody else. I’m glad that Bernie didn’t get the nomination. Trump is just following his habit of lies when reality does not go his way.

I will vote for the Republican if one is running, but I will not vote for anyone who has demonstrated that they no longer support and respect the Constitution.
