The Process I Use To Rank My Blog Post In Google Search

I have ranked 1000s of keywords on Google search, here is what I do when before and after publishing a blog post to rank it on Google search.

Hitting the “Publish” button in Blogging isn’t the end for a blogger. If you have a great product and you simply don’t do anything to promote it, you aren’t going to get any benefit out of it. Millions of blog posts are published on Wordpress hosted sites. How to think differently? Why some bloggers make a good amount of money while others are still struggling to reach that $100 mark.

This story is going to inspire you and as well as motivate you to write with confidence.

My Blogging Story

I was a computer illiterate till age 20. Yes, that was the only unluckiest thing happened to me. I was quite lucky in most things. When I admitted to Engineering college, for the very first time, my father gives me some money to buy a laptop and the college provided me an Internet connection. Back then, i don’t know about the Internet and how it is going to affect my life in general. YouTube was a great help.

You have any problem in your life, the solution to that problem is just a few clicks away.

My first blog was hosted on Blogger, a platform founded by the founder of Medium named Ev Williams. I am his great fan because he is linked in my life with many sources. Blogger was my first platform to earn money and now I am the top 8% of the earners on Medium. A beautiful story indeed.

When I made some hundreds of bucks from Blogger, I moved to a self-hosted Wordpress blog. That was real freedom. Now, we are with equal playground with millions of other blogs.

Why do you need to rank your Blog Post in Search engines?

There are many advantages of ranking your blog post in a search engine, some of them are;

  1. Getting ranked in the search engine gives you a wide range of readers. You will get passive traffic for years to come. One blog post of mine wrote in 2017, still gets views.
  2. Target audience. A person who searches for a product, service, or any problem, you have the opportunity to present any product related to that blog post and the person might buy it. This is why affiliate marketers are making a huge amount of money.
  3. If you are running PPC Ad networks ads in your blog then you make a good amount of money per thousands of views, so technically you are in the business of making a passive source of income.
  4. Converting a single reader into multiple views. If you have an article about “How to find Blog Post ideas” then a reader might be also interested to know about “How to generate great titles for blog posts”, if you have already published a post about it then you could simply add a link and that single reader will be converted into a long-time reader of your blog.

I have divided the section into three parts. Pre-Publishing is what things you need to do before starting writing a single word and in the second section is the things you need to keep in mind while writing and the last section is Post-publishing, the things you needed to do after publishing your blog post.

Pre-Publishing

  • Keyword Research: There are two types of Bloggers in this world — Smart bloggers and the ones who do hard work. With good keyword research, you aren’t going to be successful. People who do smart work, find good keywords and stick to it unless it gets ranked. You have to be smart and you needed to do keyword research before start writing your first word. The Tools you could use for Keyword researching are AHREF or SEMrush. The two important metrics in the keyword research is Keyword search volume and the keyword difficulty.
  • Manual Research: The tools I have mentioned for the keyword research doesn’t mean to be 100% accurate. Sometimes, the results are very different and if you check the same keyword in both these tools, the results might be completely different in some cases. So, the best solution is to do a manual researching the keyword. The first thing you have to do is to find the number of words in the top three articles ranked for that keyword. Google officially didn’t recognize that number of words affects the search ranking but it does affect ranking.
  • Reducing your Website loading speed: Now you will ask, “How is this related to getting my blog post ranked on Google?’ you might know that “Loading speed is one of the most important factors among 200 other ranking factors” The thing I recommend is to add “AMP” to your website, your website will load very fast on Mobile.

If authorities sites like Forbes, The Entrepreneur, or Wikipedia are ranked in the top three positions then any search engine marketers will advise you to not go for it.

Things to do While Writing your Blog Post

When you find any suitable keyword and starting to write about that keyword, you need to do something that is very important for getting ranked in Google search. A good content writer should know about these SEO content writing. Even if you are writing on Medium you should take care and note down these things and apply to your Medium stories.

  1. Meta tag optimization: The first thing you should do while writing your blog post is to write a title and add your main keyword in the title. You should also include your main keyword in the SEO description as well as using the keywords that is related to your main keyword.
  2. Keyword density: There are two types of SEO; Black-Hat SEO and White-Hat SEO. People who do Black-Hat SEO are involved in Keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is a process where people add a number of similar keywords in their blog post to manipulate ranking, Google will find it in one way or other and they will penalize your site for that. The acceptable percentage of adding keywords is 2%, in a 1000 words article you could mention 20 times.
  3. Interlinking: There are a lot of benefits of adding links to your previously published posts on your blog to your draft. The Traffic advantage is that one reader will be converted into multiple views because he/she might be interested to find more information about the things he is reading. There is a term use “Bounce rate” a bounce rate is defined as “If a user clicks on your blog post from search engine and he returns back after reading that article, it is calculated as a bounce” If 100 people visit your blog post and 60 of them leave your blog post after reading it then that is calculated as 60% bounce rate. With great interlinking strategies, you can reduce the bounce rate.
  4. Adding Alt-Tag to images in your blog. When a search engine crawler crawls your blog post, the image with no Alt-tag creates a problem in indexing. So, you need to must add an Alt-tag to pictures in your blog. The best practice is to add your main keyword in the Alt-tag of the picture you have added. This will increase your chances to get your blog post ranked on Google search.
  5. LSI keywords: LSI stands for Latent semantic indexing. This is an algorithm that recognizes similar words and then presents the best possible solution. You can also say “Similar speaking words” You need to find those keywords and then use them in your body of blog post.

What I have mentioned above is also called “On-Page SEO”

Now, in the third and the last section, we will discuss the off-page SEO — the things you needed to do after publishing your blog post that will help you to getting ranked on Google.

Post-Publishing

Your Job didn’t end when you hit that green “Publish” button, you need to do something extra to make sure your blog post ranked in Google search. The process is not very difficult, all you need to do is;

  1. Create backlinks: Backlinks mean that you need to embed your blog post links in other blogs or to share them in sites like Reddit, Quora, and Medium. You can also do ghostwriting and ask the admin to get a do-follow backlink in return.
  2. Share it on Social media sites: Share it on every possible Social media site. I have a Medium story about using Pinterest as a traffic source in blogging. You can read it here: Pinterest Marketing: How As a Blogger You Can Get More Traffic

It takes time to get ranked in Google search. Sometimes, when you write an article and publish it, it gets ranked in no time because of the lower keyword difficulty while other times it takes months to get ranked on Google search.

To give you an example, let me share the statistics of one of my Medium story.

An Example of a Medium story that gets ranked in Google search after 6 months In Google search

As you can see from the story above, it was published in October 2019 but ranked on Google search in April 2020. So, it takes time to get ranked on Google search.
