Inspiration and Life
The Power of Imagination in Your Life
How imagination can help you

Can you imagine what the world would be like without imagination? I imagine you could, but I hate to imagine the result of having no imagination. Yes, I imagine you could say I am trying to see how many times I can use the word imagine in one paragraph! That’s what imagination is — imagining something that may or may not be possible and being creative. By the way, I used imagination ten times, including this last one!
Think of the richness our imaginations add to life. What would the world be like without it? The word imagine makes me think of many related terms such as dream, create, fantasy, envision, visualize, picture, conjure, plan, and conceptualize, among others.
“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.” William Arthur Ward 1921–1994)
How imagination benefits the world
When I think of the word imagination, I think about some of the most extraordinary people in history and how they have benefited humanity.
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” Albert Einstein (1879–1955)
Where would the world be without the imaginations of Leonardo Davinci, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Fred Smith, Thomas Watson, and Steve Jobs?
How different would the world be without literary greats such as William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, Robert Frost, Leo Tolstoy, Mark Twain, and so many others?
Then there is the beautiful and moving music of amazing composers, such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky, to name only a few.
And what about the dreamers of the world? The dreams of so many have come true, such as the Pilgrims, the founding fathers of our country, many industry leaders, and more recently, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Billy Graham.
Imagination’s universal presence
Imagination influences every human being on earth. The wealth of thought and ideas it brings to the world is overwhelming. A world without imagination? It could never exist!
“Imagination creates reality.” Robert Wagner (1930-present)
Imagination is vital to every person on earth. It is like air. It engulfs every part of life, influencing everything we think and do. Without imagination, life as we know it would not only be boring, it would cease to exist.
Imagining is a form of projecting the future. It provides the expanse of variety that exists in life. It can create hope or dread, happiness or sadness, joy or misery, love or hate. Imagining is behind everything that makes us human.
“Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.” Jamie Paolinetti (1064-present)
Imagination is one of the most inspirational words in the English language. With imagination, anything is possible. It removes every limit. Imagine a world filled with peace and harmony. Could it ever exist? I like imagining it will one day!
Yet, there is a dark side to imagination. Too many people imagine gaining power for selfish purposes. Too many imagine conquering, war, and death. The dark side can be very dark, indeed. Yet, for every dark thing that exists, light can overtake it. Light eliminates the darkness when it shines on it. Oh, that there was more light in the world to extinguish the darkness!
“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.’” John 8:12
Final thoughts
Imagination brings much richness to our lives. Without it, the world would look very different. It would certainly not exist in its current form.
Look around you. Every creation you can see, touch or think about comes from imagination. Yes, the entire world, including us, was created by the Creator! The One who created imagination itself!
How can you use your imagination to live a better life? Can you imagine a better future? Can you dream bigger? Ask yourself:
“What do I want to do, and who do I want to become in my life?”
Begin imagining or reimagining your life. The possibilities of who you can be and what you can do are limited only by your imagination. Dream big and begin creating the life you want!
“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will.” George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
