Summary

The author recounts the successful rescue and integration of ten battery hens into their existing flock of dinosaurs, emphasizing the need for caution when responding to text messages and the life-saving work of FreshStartForHens.

Abstract

In a recent personal narrative, the author describes the unintended commitment to house ten hens that were in dire need of a new home, which came about through a casual text message agreement. The hens, previously confined to a battery cage system, were in poor condition upon arrival, having been deprived of any meaningful occupation besides eating, laying eggs, and feather-pulling due to stress. The author highlights the compassionate role of FreshStartForHens in saving these birds from certain death. With their rescue, the hens are now able to enjoy a few good years with the author's existing flock, affectionately referred to as "our dinos."

The Ping Henmergency Saga — Happy Ending

A few days ago, I wrote about accidentally agreeing to house ten hens in need of a home — showing just how careful you need to be when responding to a text message.

Today we collected them.

With little to occupy them in a battery beyond eating, laying eggs and pulling out their feathers, they arrived threadbare and in no fit state to be merged with the existing flock, who would eat them alive. Their savior, FreshStartForHens, shows compassion for these birds, but they have zero empathy for each other.

Ten hens who would have been killed can now look forward to a good few years with us and our dinos. Happy days!
