Summary

The author discusses the unexpected banning of their Twitter account after tweeting about sponsored content on Medium, particularly in the context of COVID-19 and financial gain.

Abstract

The article titled "The Perils of Sponsored Content on Medium (2)" delves into the author's experience with Twitter's enforcement policies. The author's account was suspended after tweeting about their Medium post on sponsored content, which mentioned COVID-19 and the potential to earn "millions of dollars." The tweet also included all caps text and multiple tweets within a short time frame, which may have triggered Twitter's automated moderation systems. The author humorously pleads for the reinstatement of their account and updates with a link to another article criticizing Twitter's treatment of users.

Opinions

  • The author implies a level of irony in Twitter's actions, given Twitter's reputation as a platform for free speech, yet they blocked the author's account.
  • There is a suggestion that Twitter's automated moderation may be overly sensitive or lack nuance, as the author's account was banned for potentially harmless content.
  • The author seems to believe that Twitter's policy enforcement can be arbitrary or inconsistent, as they were penalized for what could be considered normal discourse.
  • There is a critical view of Twitter's handling of user accounts, with the author feeling bullied and expressing dissatisfaction with the platform's policies.

The Perils of Sponsored Content on Medium (2)

You believe that Twitter is a platform for free speech, then they block your account.😕

“Sponsored content is inherently risky”

Famous last words. I wrote this post: The Perils of Sponsored Content on Medium and was retweeting a tweet from Desiree Driesenaar about my post when my account was banned.

So why did Twitter auto ban my account? Is this some corporate conspiracy against sponsored content🤔? Maybe, or maybe Twitter Public Policy doesn’t like it when you do the following:

  1. Use the term COVID-19
  2. with the term “millions of dollars”
  3. Put some words in all caps
  4. Tweet out more than 2 tweets in a 10 minute period.

Twitter can I have my account back pretty please😒

If you give me my account back I’d really appreciate it 🙏😂.
