The Painful Challenge About Having Friends and Family in Other Countries

How long will it be until I can see them again?

Do you have friends and family in other countries?

I’ve been blessed to travel the world, make many friends, and meet up with family members.

It’s been interesting to learn from them and learn the in-depth local knowledge of their cultures from them.

But the painful thing about having friends and family abroad is never knowing when exactly I’ll be able to see them again.

During this summer in 2023, I saw many friends and family I had met in 2017, 2018, and 2019 when I traveled abroad more frequently.

After four years apart from these friends and family members, it was genuinely wonderful to reunite with them.

But whenever I would say goodbye to them and move on to a different city, I couldn’t help thinking,

When will I see them again?

The next time I’ll be able to see them again is if I come to Europe or if they come to the US. And I don’t know when I’ll be in Europe next time because life can be unpredictable.

And we all know how events like the pandemic propelled many of us into a period of uncertainty.

Will I see them in a year, two years, three years? I don’t know for sure.

Not only that, but I also have friends and family on other continents that I want to see (especially Asia!). I am still determining when I’ll be able to see them, too.

Having friends and family I care about so much worldwide is a blessing. And it’s luckily easy to connect with them on social media platforms like WhatsApp or Instagram.

But there’s always a question that remains. When will I see them again?
