The Out-of-Order Day
A day when nothing seems to work
Jill was having a typical Monday,
It was an Out-Of-Order day.
The boiler had shut down that morning,
The Coffee maker had lost its power and its spring,
Something was wrong with everything.
The bus stop was shut for repairs,
The people were caught unawares.
So she walked a mile to get a bus,
She was not the type to make a fuss.
Exhausted and worried she went on,
At work, nothing wanted to switch on,
Her laptop and her printer, all power was gone.
Why was she having such a horrible day?
Was it something she did or something she had said?
Was it something she saw when she got out of bed?
Luckily, the power was switched back on,
And her work continued as the day went on.
Her day passed by without a hitch,
Till she lost her lunch a veggie sandwich,
As it slid out of her plate into a filthy bin,
She was certainly not going to plunge in.
Her friend Maria gave her a pack of chips,
That was all the lunch that touched her lips.
On her way back home it was the same,
The bus company was not taking the blame.
As Jill was walking on her way back home,
Too tired to do shopping or to roam.
Jill picked up a lottery ticket from a nearby shop,
Just across from the closed bus stop,
With a pack of sandwiches for her dinner,
Today she was not feeling like a winner.
All that was about to change for this girl,
Who took care of everyone in her world,
From her old parents and her sick brother,
She was a good daughter and sister like no other.
Jill always did what was just and right,
She never gave up without a struggle and fight.
That evening as the Lottery numbers were said,
Jill was literally flying high on wings of air,
She was the lucky winner and a Multi-Millionaire.
