The Remarkable Sherlock Holmes
The myth and legend of an iconic super-sleuth

When you think about crime and detection, there is one name that comes to mind, which is Sherlock Holmes. This fictional character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is immortal till today. Sherlock Holmes has made a major impact in the fields of crime and detection over the decades.
The character of private investigator and detective Sherlock Holmes, accompanied by his partner Doctor Watson in crime detection has been adapted into movies, stories, novels, and television series over the years.
We all remember the fantastic portrayals of Sherlock Holmes by Basil Rathbone. The best Sherlock Holmes interpretation in my opinion is Jeremy Brett in the television series.
However, the more recent adaptation of the character in the television series, “Sherlock” with Benedict Cumberbatch in the role of Holmes is magnificent. I enjoyed the modern version of this great super-sleuth and have the complete boxset in my collection.
“Elementary”, the television series with Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Doctor Watson was equally entertaining and enthralled audiences the world over.
London is synonymous with 221B Baker Street, the private residence of detective Sherlock Holmes, which is now a Museum dedicated to the sleuth.
A new adaptation of Sherlock Holmes has been released on Netflix, titled “The Irregulars” and is worth watching for its supernatural themes.
Though Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character, he has made a major impact on the minds of millions of readers worldwide. It is every fiction author’s dream to be able to create such an iconic character who can stand the test of time, bring about changes in society, have a presence in all media from books to cinema and television.
