The *Only* Reason You Need To Start Writing
Use this to start and fall in love
This article is not your usual guide on how to start writing online, become a content creator, and leave your 9–5 jobs, unless that’s genuinely what you want.
Today, I’m talking about simply putting your thoughts on a paper.
And why you should start doing it.
Back Story…
Since I was a young kid, I used to write journals about how I feel, laying out everything that happened on that particular day or otherwise.
I was very shy and introverted child.
Writing helped immensely to deal with difficult situations and controling my overwhelming emotions.
Over time, it became a habit to write journals in my notebooks.
Now, it has evolved into writing down ideas and different concepts I want to explore through my blog.
I’m still old school when it comes to writing, and I have five different types of cute notebooks to write my journal.
I love collecting cute colorful notebooks and nice pens to go with them.
I guess that’s my cheap thrill when it comes to writing.
If you prefer technology to write, that’s okay too. :)
Why you should start writing…
Writing can make everything better.
It certainly does for me.
It helps you look into different perspectives.
You know when you have so much in your head and everything seems messy, overwhelming, and anxious.
Writing can help you unwind and simplify your thoughts.
There’s something about writing; everything looks and feels different after you finish writing a page.
Try it someday, and you’ll see the difference.
To be honest, it’s for you.
But if you’re into sharing your stories with the world, why not?
Writing online…
I understand writing online is not for everyone.
I remember I started my blog in 2008 and wrote a bunch of blogs, but it took me years to find the guts to publish them.
The fear of sharing too much with the world and the judgment bound to come from online interactions held me back.
I was born and brought up in India, and people there are often too much into other people’s business and gossip.
Our behavior is highly driven by what others say and think about us.
While growing up, I was judged and criticized for how I looked, dressed, or even how my behavior seemed unlikely to be Indian.
This story is for some other time, but let’s come back to writing.
With time, I realized that we give too much attention to what other people say and think about us.
Honestly, no one has that much time and capacity to think about us.
Everyone is busy with their own lives.
So much worst-case scenarios in your head…
Everything is in your head; we give so much importance to not doing certain things.
Your head is always try to trick you something worst…
It’s too difficult, what’s the point, what if…
My advise is if you are looking for one…
- If you want to write, write.
- If you want to make YouTube videos, make one.
- If you want to pursue anything, just do it.
- The world has opportunities for everyone.
And maybe, just maybe, someday someone will get inspired by your stories and find the courage to do things they always wanted to.
The only way to success…
In the modern world, it has become so easy to connect with like-minded people around the globe, to make authentic and genuine connections.
I write about life lessons, self-improvement, mindfulness, and how writing online has changed my life.
These two years of writing have been informative and inspiring, to say the least.
Now, almost every other day, I get a request from friends on how they can start writing online and blog on different platforms.
So, step up and write for yourself first, and if you are interested and want to make it a profession, why not?
There are ample opportunities available for you to do that as well.
Keep the perfection at the bay…
You have one life, so why not live it to the fullest?
Your first piece may not be perfect.
In the last two years, I have written 382 articles.
When I look back at my very first blog post or even the 100th, I think, I could have done so much better.
That’s the thing about writing.
My initial blogs were perfect at that point in time for me, but now they’re not.
It’s because I practiced long enough to know the difference, and the other thing is growth happens over time.
In writing, like all other skills, you keep improving while you’re at it, so don’t be afraid to just go ahead.
This holds true for everything else in your life, be it learning a new skill, making healthy choices, or doing fitness training.
How you can start….
If you are like me, a pen and a notebook are more than enough to start.
Or maybe just open a word document or a Google doc to start with.
The idea is to keep an open mind and just write without thinking it doesn’t look good, or it’s not making sense, or it’s not coming out perfect.
The idea is to free flow your thoughts, emotions, and I’m sure there is a great story within you waiting to be told.
If you want to start blogging online, some of the things I did can help you:
1. Choose a platform that is easy to use and navigate:
You don’t want to complicate your writing process, especially in the early days. Make it accessible and easy for you to practice longer.
Some of my favorite platforms are Medium, LinkedIn, and Substack.
2. Write, write, write:
To become consistent, you need to write often, show up for your craft.
I spend usually 30 minutes every day on writing.
So start with maybe 15 minutes and go from there.
3. Engage with other bloggers:
The best way is to engage in meaningful conversations with other bloggers, become friends, and engage with their writing as well.
It will help you to create new ideas for yourself.
4. Show up because you want to:
Writing is personal, even if you are writing fiction.
It’s all about connecting with people’s hearts and souls.
So make your writing like that.
Don’t try to sound like a robot or an AI.
People genuinely love deep human stories, so write because you love it and you want to.
When will you see the magic…
When the best stories come out from within.
That’s where magic happens.
I love writing because I find joy in the writing process, and I get to learn from others.
Find your joy, have fun while creating and sharing your stories with the world.
I hope this helps you to start writing, and I look forward to reading your stories someday :)
All the best!
