The One Thing All Top Etsy Sellers Do That No One Talks About

A quick (and dirty) lesson on the SIMPLEST way to generate traffic and sales as an Etsy seller…

As a top Etsy Seller coach, I hear it all. I’m pretty much the bridge troll that stands between you and those coveted Etsy secrets.

Today, I want to give you one of those secrets. (Hells yeah!)

But to get it, you have to humor me for a minute: I want to talk about the #1 Etsy complaint I hear all the time.

“Why the HELL is everyone and their mother making a million sales on Etsy, and I’ve got NOTHING??? My product is better, my photographs are awesome, my SEO is perfect! What gives???”

Have you ever felt this way?

Let’s all take a minute and get good and angry about it. (Because angry = a great excuse for me to use bad words. And I love me some bad words).

In reality, there are LOTS of reasons utterly remarkable Etsy shops don’t succeed. (But 99% of the time, it’s usually THIS reason).

Meanwhile, there’s always that one random butt-ugly shop that somehow makes a sale a day (WTF??)

But today we’re here to talk about YOUR shop, (because there’s not much we can do about someone else’s shop!)… So let’s hear what the bridge troll has to say about growing YOUR income.

Bridge Troll thinks it’s time to focus on YOUR Etsy shop, not everyone elses’!

THE BIG SECRET: Your Shop Needs More Items

I don’t care if you already have 100 items.

I don’t care if you painstakingly created 8 items and none of them are selling.

Maybe your shop is new, and you’re just filling your shelves.

Or maybe you’re a long-time seller and you don’t have time to add new items anymore.

Maybe you have 5000 kids, 4 jobs, and a rabid octopus goat for a pet.

No matter what your reason, if you’re not adding new items to your shop EVERY MONTH, then you are DOING IT WRONG.

#sorrynotsorry.

Why do you need to add new items?

There are over 30 million items for sale on Etsy right now.

You and your little shop are just a needle in a haystack!

How are your items going to become a big hit if people can’t find you in the first place?

It’s time to make your shop KNOWN…and the fastest way to rise to the top is by adding more products. REGULARLY. Like Clockwork.

Top sellers make it a point to add new items constantly.

It’s so important to keep creating new things if you want to be a full-time seller.

In fact, adding new items is just as important as good photos and SEO.

More items = more chances to get found. Adding listings has a huge impact on your shop ranking and can significantly increase your chance to make ongoing sales (!!)

Don’t believe me?

Here are my Etsy stats from April — June (when I first opened my shop). Notice anything interesting? ⇣ ⇣ ⇣

Can you figure out when I started adding more items on a regular basis?

You may be like, “dude, this graphic is from 2015”.

So to all those people, here’s your wake-up call:

If you want something to succeed now, in 2022 and beyond, you have to SHOW UP.

EVERY. FRIGGIN. DAY.

It’s true of Tik Tok, it’s true of youtube, and it’s 500% true on ANY e-commerce platform.

When I coach sellers to start adding items to their lagging shops, things ALWAYS pick up. Sometimes in less than 48 hours.

Especially when we plan out the RIGHT ITEMS.

Your New Items Need to Be High Quality — This is NOT just a numbers game!

Here’s a fair warning:

DON’T read this article and immediately start making 5 new items every single day.

That’s a great way to burn out, HARD.

It’s also not going to help your sales AT ALL.

Throwing items up just for sake of “more items” is a great way to waste your TIME and money…

Because — truth bomb — Etsy customers can smell desperation.

They have lots to choose from, and there’s no way they’ll pick a low-quality item over a well-crafted one made by your nearest competitor.

Don’t screw yourself over. QUALITY is the most important thing.

That means if you can’t make more than five high-quality items per month, then JUST stick with five.

Better to build up slowly than to ruin your shop and your reputation.

Which DOES happen by the way — my Etsy Coaching students have told me there’s some Etsy blogger out there recommending you just upload tons of items to your shop (even if they’re crap. Her advice is “get as much up as fast as possible!”)

And do you know what happened to those Etsy sellers that took her advice and just made hundreds of shit items??

They work with me now, and we actually had to UN-DO all that work!! (One girl spent TWO YEARS just adding items, and she had to re-do every single last one 😱)

How Often Should You Add New Items?

I like to add 10–12 new items to my shop every month. That’s what my brain is comfortable with, and it also doesn’t take up all my valuable time.

While the number of items you add to your shop is up to you, the part that IS NOT up to you is how often you do it…

REGULAR = the most important part.

Every single month, I devote one week to creating new items and adding them to Etsy. I have this task on my calendar from now until the END of TIME. (Just kidding — but I do use reminders to ensure this task is a priority every month).

Get yourself on a regular schedule. Repetition means you’ll build the habit and it’s more likely to get done each month.

As an added bonus, regular additions to your shop will usually create a monthly SEO boost for you, too! 😊

So STOP reading this article, and go get your phone. Open your calendar app, and REMIND yourself to add new items to your shop.

Put that shit on repeat. And watch your shop grow!
