This Book Led me To Massive Actions
“Unlimited Power” contributed in enhancing the quality of my life
Most of the books I read, I take notes, highlight, have resonating moments and few months after I forget most of the details unless I go back to the notes and read them again to refresh my mind.
Books improve my knowledge, open my mind and widen my perspectives but rarely do they lead me to actions. As in all things there’s an exception: one book impacted me profoundly and led me to taking massive actions. That book is “Unlimited Power” by Tony Robbins.
In that book you get a practical understanding of the power of your mind and the tools to get on the journey of making your mind your friend/collaborator.
The findings and methods used are based on a science commonly known as NLP: Neuro Linguistic Programming. Neuro refers to brain while Linguistic refers to language. It is the study of how language, both verbal and nonverbal affects our nervous system. Our ability to do anything in life is based upon our ability to direct our own nervous system — Unlimited Power.
In 2020, most of us know that the reality we experience is mostly defined by the thinking pattern we have. We know the power of how a grateful heart in the morning can lighten the whole day or how a little negative/destructive thought can ruin a day: all that happening inside our mind without anything tangible happening.
In Unlimited Power you get to train and do some fitness for your mind. This is something that I am still working on 9 years after I first read that book. It’s a lifetime work in progress.
I previously wrote about one major key takeaway from the book: the 7 lies of success — power of belief. When one gets familiar with those beliefs and internalise them, one truly notice tremendous changes in the quality of one’s life.
This book came at a phase of my life (2010/2011) when I was open for change and challenge. I was curious about the world (still am) and determined to boost my life. And it sure happened. It did not happened because I read the book only but because I took actions upon the knowledge I had acquired.
Knowledge + Action = Magic
Because as Maya Angelou wrote:
“When you know better you do better”
Bellow some of the areas in which I took actions after reading Unlimited Power and how it enhanced the quality of my life.
#1: Leaving the comfort zone
That book taught me the considerable growth attained when one leaves the comfort zone. Nothing amazing happens in the comfort zone, that’s true. It is also true that one does not need to see amazing things happen in one’s life, it’s a life choice. We all choose the kind of life we desire to live.
After reading the book, I knew that I wanted to give meaning to my life and especially go outside my comfort zone to discover the world around me and people. That’s the book that fuelled partly my decision to embark on an Erasmus year in 2011 (one of the best years of my life). That’s the key year that allowed me discover the Nordics countries and their way of living which I came to be very intrigued about. From that year on, one thing led to another and as for now I have been living outside my comfort zone in Norway for the past 6 years.
#2: Taking responsibility
My Queen mother had already taken care of passing through this value. “Unlimited Power” acted as a confirmation with an objective perspective. I came to internalise and apply this to whichever situation I face in my life: in all things I make sure to take the responsibility that is mine. It was also after reading that book that I started complaining less in my life. Indeed when you take responsibility there is little space left for complaining. Doing that switch increased the level of joyful moments I experience in my life. Naturally I still complain from time to time (as a way to ventilate my emotions) but it’s less out of a social habit as it used to be before (in France we complain a lot about everything and nothing, it’s a social norm). I would say that at this point I am a conscious complainer :).
#3: Communication, all areas lifetime skill
Lastly but not the least, Unlimited Power thought me the power of communication. The communication with ourselves and the communication with others. All things happen and evolve through communication. The absence or inefficiency of communication can negatively impact a work atmosphere, relationships and one’s whole reality (self communication). Communication matters tremendously. No one was born a great communicator (sure some genes may help or not), but I believe any one who’s willing and committed to, can be a good communicator. It is a skill to cultivate and nourish in order to see it flourish. Side note: this is not me lecturing — far away from me that pretension; I am myself on the journey of becoming a true and more authentic communicator.
Did you notice a pattern? It’s all within the reach of each of us. We do not need to seek answers elsewhere. We all have within us the necessary abilities to experience fully the fascinating journey of life.
What about you dear reader? Any book you read that left you impacted for the best ? I’ll be delighted to hear about your experience in comment section.
Until next time, thank you for your precious time. Be and stay well.
