The Number Of Sexless Men Has Tripled In 10 Years. Why?
Fewer men are getting laid than ever before — and data shows that younger guys are struggling the most.
In this guide, we’ll explore why this trend is occurring — and what you can do about it.
Why Are Fewer Men Having Sex?
The graph below shows the percentage of 18-to-30-year-olds not having sex for the past year.

From 1989 to 2008, it was about the same proportion for men and women.
Since then, it has skyrocketed for men up to 28%. But, for women it has stayed about the same.
What’s more, this chart shows that the number of young male virgins has more than tripled over that same time period.

The obvious question is: why?
The Smartphone Generation
Facebook became available to adults outside of U.S colleges in September 2006. The first iPhone was released in June 2007. These milestone events are widely regarded to have created the ‘smartphone generation’ of young adults.
Since then, smartphones and social media have become the main medium of communication — and it has become easier than ever to connect with strangers outside our immediate social circles.
Along with smartphones came dating apps. The release of Tinder in 2012 made online dating popular for the masses. Hundreds of copycat apps soon followed. Now, dating apps are among the most common way for young adults to meet a romantic partner.
Dating apps and social media have undoubtedly made it easier to connect with an attractive stranger. So, why is it that guys are hooking up less?
The reason is: women have only been interested in hooking up with the top-tier men. There are plenty of studies which prove this, including one which shows that the top 78% of attractive women are only ‘swiping right’ on the top 20% of attractive men.
So, while top-tier men have been cleaning up on dating apps, most average men are struggling to attract one match per month.
This has been harming the average dude’s attempts to meet women in the real world too. Even if a man was brave enough to woo a woman at a party and swap contact details, he’ll still be competing with all her Tinder matches and Instagram followers after they part ways.
Indeed, the insane growth of Instagram has helped to cement our new globalised sexual market place. Elite men are now sliding in the DMs of women outside their city and paying for these women to fly over and visit them. These are the types of men that average Joe now has to compete with.
Men Are Becoming Less Masculine
It’s still possible for an average-looking man to beat the odds and woo a woman with a winning personality.
The problem is: Millennial and Gen-Z men are becoming less masculine and less able to attract feminine women.
- Average testosterone levels are dropping at a rate of 1% per year.
- More young boys are being raised without father figures at home or school.
- Society is shaming ‘toxic masculinity’ and encouraging men to embrace their feminine side.
- Young men are less likely to have developed social skills, because most of their communication with peers is now digital.
- Young men are becoming more sedentary, thanks to the digital world we now live in.
Also, there’s the increased ease of access to porn, which could arguably weaken a man’s desire to go out and meet women in real life.
Women Are Becoming More Independent
Women are now outnumbering men in college. More women are thriving professionally.
In spite of this, most remain unwilling to settle for a man who earns less than them.
Then, there’s the third-wave feminism movement teaching average women that they deserve nothing less than a rich and handsome Prince Charming.
With all these ingredients creating the modern dating market, you might start to wonder how there’s not more men who can’t get any action.
