The Medium Account Theory, How Engagement Can Cause Stop in Traffic.

Wait, Don’t Clap yet. (Read on) Today, I came across a post on Medium that could not only save my but my followers account.

Lately, there has been numerous follower and posts about how earning and views are non existent despite that they didn’t do anything differently. In fact many of them engage more than then use to.

From the past week, I have see my organic traffic went down day after day and then now flat. There is a disconnect between the frontend (claps and comment) and the backend (view and reads). The frontend did not change in fact has grown a bit, however the backend say other wise as you can see from the below 3 images.

A post could not even pass $20 mark. (in fact most earning came from the 1st 24 hours) And the week before that, things were totally different see image below.

Now if you have gone all the way this far, that mean either you have this issue or you want to help for real.

Relooking at what I might of done wrong in term of order of engagement.

Like many, we are excited to support the writer that we like base on their post or their character that we develop in relation over time.

I often see a post of theirs and click on it right away, even thought I read them all the way but have a habit of clapping or even sometimes commenting within the 30 second mark. (I’m sure most of us done that at some point, we want to give support and move on to the next task as well) (if fact what I use to do is clap and comment along the way as I read)

However, I have to say “We need to relook at the order of how we engage”,

The algorithm is a bot that would only follow lines of code as they determine how traffic are going to spread amount millions of accounts.

What I would do from now on is to act like a normal human in bots point of view when reading and supporting other writers or posts that I read.

1. Click on an article,
2. and start reading first,
3. do not click on claps or comment within the 30 second mark,
4. in fact I would start engaging in relation to the length of each post
5. if you read and engage naturally this could help both account because the algorithm will not view you as spam, which remind me how I was mistakenly flag as a spammer during December.
6. When replying to comments, might be better to reply them a few at a time as well. (the algorithm does not care the order or the way we do things, it might also see you spamming as well)

Give it a week or two for the algorithm to reassess your action if you have this issue as well and we’ll revisit the results or improvement at the end of January.
