The Meaning of Happiness
My thoughts on happiness
Happiness is an emotional state of joy, satisfaction, contentment, and fulfilment. While happiness has many definitions, it often involves positive emotions and life satisfaction.
Happiness means different things to different people. To many, the basics of food and shelter are sufficient. But when you have achieved that, you will move on to bigger things like having a home, having a good job or having a family with children.
We often do not comprehend happiness until certain things are absent in our life. For example, when one must downsize his house due to financial reasons or if one lost his loved ones or friend.
It is often the absence of certain things in our life that cause us to realise whether we value them or whether they bring us happiness.
I read on a social media post recently that a woman complained about a deep pen mark on her valued water bottle caused by her son. She was angry with her son. Comments like “Things are meant to be used; children are to be valued,” were shared by other readers.
Sometimes, when things are missing, we may feel happier. Of course, I do not mean people in life but something that ties us down, giving us some form of financial stress.
For example, you borrowed to buy something expensive in your life. It would be best if you worked very hard to keep your job.
On the outside, you look very successful, but on the inside, you feel you have made a mistake. Owning less may be better for you.
Until there are changes in our lives, we may not know that we could be happier with fewer things.
What makes us happy is a deeply personal question that we must consider and reflect on.
