The Main Reason Why I Don’t Have An iPhone
To me it’s an obvious reason. Others may call it petty, but it is what it is.
It seems like every year a new iPhone comes out. At the time of this writing it’s the iPhone 12, or is it the iPhone XII, I’m not sure how it’s termed.
I’ll admit, I’ve never had an iPhone, so I cannot speak of how reliable/unreliable they are. But, there is one big reason why I don’t feel the need to get one, whether new or used.
Before I go into that, let me say that I’m sure I don’t know all the ins and outs of an iPhone. Heck, I don’t even know all the ins and outs of an Android phone.
Mainly because I’m not a major techie person. I’m sure I could learn how to do things if they really are that important to me, but until then, what’s the use?
I’m not saying that in a negative way, it’s just my thoughts. I don’t feel I need to get the latest version of “Angry Birds” or look for Pokeman, that just doesn’t appeal to me. For others, I’m sure they feel those are must have apps and can’t live without them.
I don’t base my phone choices on different apps that can only be used for that phone, or the latest updates for a particular app.
Cell phones, to me at least, serve as a source to contact other people and find information. Do I use the phone for business? Sometimes, but it’s not a do or die situation, that’s for sure. I don’t need a cell phone controlling my life.
So, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of my reason for not having an iPhone.
Full disclosure, I have had all Android phones except for the one time I got a Windows phone. I think I was maybe 1 of 17 people in the whole world who had one! lol! [It wasn’t exactly the best choice I’ve ever made, but that’s a whole other story!]
I’ve never had issues with Android phones, but that’s not the reason for having one.
It basically comes down to one thing and one thing only, MONEY!
The latest version of iPhones cost between $700-$1000! Holy cow, $1000 for a phone! What in the world is so good about this phone?
And yes, there are probably Android phones which cost this much as well, I’ve just never priced them out and I don’t hear about them either.
Now, don’t get me wrong, if you can afford it and want a $1000 phone, go for it! I’ll be your biggest cheerleader! But, if you have to get it on payments, and then complain because you don’t have enough money to do other things, I’ll be the first to call you a financial idiot!
If you have ANY debt and have to pay it back in payments, then having a $1000 phone, financially speaking, is just plain dumb. What’s so special about an iPhone that you can’t do with a regular $100 phone?
I say this because the last 2 phones I’ve had were both brand new and FREE with the cell service I was getting.
When I tell people this, they immediately say, “Oh, I’ve been with my cell company for 20 years, no need to switch just to get a free phone.”
I just shake my head because I don’t understand brand loyalty when it comes to cell phone companies. Maybe it’s because I’ve switched enough times and used every carrier, which doesn’t seem to be any difference in them, by the way.
Oh, and another thing, believe it or not, every major cell company has an off-brand company that uses the same coverage, the same cell towers and the same service, for 1/2 the monthly price. And, several of these companies offer unlimited and unthrottled data as well.
Is an iphone part of the free phone give-a-way these companies offer? I can’t say for sure, but I have yet to see one. All I know is if they are offering me a free phone to switch to them and give me the same coverage for half the cost, I’m all in!
You may call me cheap, I say I’m frugal. However it’s termed, I’m good with it and I’ll enjoy the extra money I have in my wallet and get an updated phone every year or two!
