My 30 Day Gallon Of Water Challenge
Is my water consumption results different from other people? Maybe it is!
Yes, I did the 1 gallon of water a day for 30 days challenge. Why? Because I wanted to experience it for myself and see what happened.
First of all, let me say I don’t have any health issues. I go for a yearly checkup at the doctor’s office and my blood work comes back normal. Nothing out of whack and all my “vitals” are usually about average.
The only thing the doctor tells me is I need to lose weight. It’s funny, because I run a fitness based internet company called Top Fitness Strategies and most people assume I’m a physical specimen who should be sporting the cover of magazines. I’ll admit, my body could use some work here or there, but I also don’t claim to be the most attractive person in the fitness world. But that’s another story.
Anyway, back to the water challenge thing…
I don’t know when this gallon of water a day for 30 days challenge started, but I began seeing more and more YouTube videos about it and watched quite a few.
I woke up one morning and decided to try this challenge. I had a water bottle I used when working out, so I figured out how many of times I needed to fill it up to equal a gallon and I started. That was my preparation.
I didn’t do it because I wanted to lose weight. I didn’t do it because I wanted to find some magical healing properties. I didn’t do it because I wanted better skin.
I would say I did it for the pure challenge of doing it and also, because I know water is GREAT for the human body and I wouldn’t be hurting myself putting good stuff in my body.
I made the mistake of telling people I was doing it. I say mistake because right away, I got two main responses from people: a) Whole Cow! I could never drink that much water in a day! or b) That’s it? I drink that much a day at work because I work in a hot place and constantly drink water.
Not one person asked why. Not one person wanted to know results as I went on. Not one person said they wanted to do it as well.
So, I just quit telling people and went on with the challenge.

I didn’t change my diet, I didn’t change my workout routine, I just went on with my life, but was conscience of drinking that gallon of water.
At first, especially the first few days, I had to use the facilities quite a bit! I seemed like at least once an hour. I definitely got my steps in always looking for places to go, that’s for sure! HaHa!
I would say around day 6 or 7 is when I found myself not having to go, oh heck we’ll just call it like it is, PEE as much!
Filling up the water bottle didn’t seem like a chore any longer, it was more of a way of life.
Instead of fighting to get the last few drinks in before going to bed wasn’t an issue, I finished the gallon WAY before bedtime.
The longer the challenge went on, the easier and easier drinking a gallon of water a day became. Heck, I was actually drinking more than a gallon, and I was just fine.
The biggest takeaway was by week two, I realized I was falling as sleep easier and when I woke up in the morning, I was feeling more and more refreshed.
Weeks 3 and 4 came and yes, I was still going strong and wasn’t having any issues at all. Matter of fact, I felt as if I had more clarity and was in a LOT better mood than usual.
After the 30 days was up, I decided to get on the scale. Now remember, I wasn’t doing this challenge for health or weight loss reasons, I was doing it just to do it.
That being said, I found myself 7 lbs lighter at the end of the challenge! Yes, and added benefit!
Oh, and all you folks who say, “you could die if you drink too much water”, think about it logically, as long as you can pee and sweat, your body will not retain the water! So, drink as much water as you can and if you can pee it out, water itself cannot make you die!
My personal conclusion: As mentally tough as it SEEMED to be, it wasn’t really that tough to do. Being a personal trainer, I would HIGHLY recommend anyone drink more water, it will only help you and just about every way.
