Summary

The poem "The Mail Speaks" addresses the impact of political interference on postal delivery services, emphasizing the unintended consequences on the public, particularly the elderly and those relying on mail for essential services.

Abstract

The poem "The Mail Speaks" is a poignant reflection on the consequences of political decisions on the postal service. It personifies the mail as an entity that is essential to households, delivering not just letters but also crucial medications and packages. The poem highlights the negative effects of excessive restrictions and rules imposed by politicians, which hinder the smooth operation of mail delivery. It suggests that these actions are causing undue stress and harm, especially to the elderly and those in need, by delaying or preventing the delivery of essential items. The poem calls for the mail to be left unobstructed, allowing it to flow freely and fulfill its purpose without political manipulation. It underscores the irony that while politicians receive their mail without issue, their actions create a barrier that prevents the mail from reaching others, leading to a breakdown in the intended seamless delivery process. The poem appeals for the mail to be allowed to continue its journey, as interruptions in delivery cause widespread harm and dissatisfaction.

Every household, needs me

politicians , don’t you see

for letters, meds, and packages too

to much restrictions you do

making rules, stops me in my track

you are stressing me, too many lack

the elderly who need their meds

halted, legally your actions led

into the post office I daily dived

at home, business, can’t arrive

with stamps in place, ready to go

found myself stuck high and low

too many hurt when I don’t arrive

some maybe dying as I strive

leave me alone, and let all be

hurting to many don’t you see

your rules are for your foolish gain

I just want to be delivered just the same

to many are hurt, my decree

no delivery hurts, don’t you see

politicians, you get your mail

because of you, others I have failed

allow me to flow free

this is not how it was designed to be

Arrived in the post office, to continue the way

uninterrupted delivery each an every day

get your votes the right way

leave the mail alone, let it lay

to arrive, as intended

I suffocate at the thought

my trips will be stopped

from too many at the very top

let me go, let me be free

upon delivery, many will glee.
