The Joy(s) of Potlucks

Breaking bread together is an important human ritual that helps fortify ties within and outside of our family and immediate friends. Connections strengthen even more when guests are asked to contribute to a meal.
The casual nature of potlucks allows them to be spontaneous, under-planned, and flexible in size. By recruiting some friends and asking them to bring another friend and food to share, the “party” is ready-made. The informality focuses us on deepening relationships and eschews the aesthetic distractions inherent to traditional dinner parties.
Used as a strategy to curb social isolation and loneliness, social eating is a ‘hot’ topic as we recover from quarantines. Potlucks are just the tool we need to get us back on our ‘social’ feet. National Potluck Day is January 20th, will you be strengthening your social connections with a potluck that day?
