The Importance of Intuition
I learned to listen to my body and my intuition
Years ago, I went to a party at a friend’s house. We were all hanging out in the backyard. While I danced with my friends, a guy smiled at me. He was eating with his friends away from us.
It was a sunny day but, in the middle of the party, it started to rain. We went inside and sat down in the living room while we listened to the thunderstorm outside. My friend introduced me to the charismatic guy that was previously looking at me. He was a nice guy. He had a sweet laugh and warm eyes. We talked for hours even though we had nothing in common. He flirted with me and smiled at me. He liked me but, did I like him? Back then, I thought I did. Now, I see things differently.
Weeks later, we started dating. What a sweet summer! We hung out all the time, sometimes the two of us alone and other times with our friends. We went to the fanciest restaurants. We made picnics in the most beautiful parks with incredible gardens and walked happily through the city. He gave me red and white roses even if I was allergic to them. We wrote letters to each other. All our friends thought we were the happiest couple. I never asked myself if I was happy.
Our dates might have been fun and beautiful but, I never felt anything when we kissed. I never blushed when my friends mention his name. My heart was never full of life when I was with him. And for an unknown reason, I never asked myself why?
Eventually, we broke up. After that, I always remembered our times as a good summer full of love. Years later, I asked myself for the first time: did I ever loved him? The answer was no.
I learned my lessons. I learned to listen to my body and my intuition. I learned that by asking my heart questions, I will be happy and free.
I wrote this story inspired by this prompt. It was very different from what I normally write but it made me think a lot. Thanks to Diana C. for your amazing prompts!
