The Great Epiphanyvirus

A new pandemic spreading like wildfire

Scientists have not yet determined where the Epiphanyvirus started. They have not even been able to figure out how the virus is being spread. Apparently, it has nothing to do with physical human contact.

In just two months the Epiphanyvirus has affected over 100,000 people in the U.S.A. alone and has spread to every country on the planet. The number of cases are multiplying exponentially and it has been calculated that within just a year or so every human on the planet may become infected.

Thankfully, there have been no recorded deaths due to the virus. However there has been a ginormous amount of people quitting their jobs, husbands and wives breaking up, people selling their homes and moving to the country, soldiers going A.W.O.L., billionaires giving their money away, priests and pastors leaving their churches, zookeepers letting animals out of their cages, drug addicts seeking help, government officials doing the right thing, people turning vegan, criminals becoming social workers, and news anchors sobbing on live TV.

The world seems to be changing right before our eyes. Nothing like this has ever been seen before. Everything has become unstable throughout society. Old paradigms, old ideas, old beliefs, old institutions, old habits, old laws, old customs, old cultural concepts; they are all crumbling.

Panic is spreading throughout society and a lot of that has to do with the uncertainty. People don’t know how to protect themselves from the Epiphanyvirus and the experts don’t know what to tell them. Since the virus is not spread by human physical contact it does no good to hunker down in one’s home to ride things out. People are walking about in a daze, unable to go on about their daily lives knowing that at any moment they could be struck by a life-changing epiphany brought about by the Epiphanyvirus. It is not a matter of if but rather of when an epiphany will strike.

With people — both workers and CEOs — walking off the job and with people no longer paying their bills, the economy is falling apart. Stock brokers have been heavily affected as have coders in Silicon Valley. Social media platforms are being abandoned. Big Pharma executives are beside themselves not being able to come up with an over-priced pill for the epidemic. Border Patrol agents have started tearing down the wall on the Mexican border. The IRS has ceased functioning. Every single presidential candidate has dropped out of the race. Professional sports teams have gone bankrupt as has Disneyland and Hollywood. Golf courses have become deserted. McDonalds and Starbucks are closing at a rate of fifteen outlets per hour.

Even conspiracy theorists have fallen silent. There seems to be no one to blame for this unprecedented pandemic of epiphanies. It just started happening.

Is this the end of the world? Or the beginning of a new world? What will future societies — if any survive — say about this momentous time of change? Will they look back at the Great Epiphanyvirus with nostalgia or sorrow? What will future grandparents tell their grandchildren?
