“Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness. It’s the spark that lights a fire of joy in your soul.” — Amy Collette

My friend Sandy called me very excitedly that her son, daughter-in-law(DIL), and her two grandkids were coming to visit her from the USA.

Her DIL is an American young lady. Her two grandkids were very keen to go to visit the Golden temple as they had seen several pictures of the beautiful monument.

I was thankful to my friend for having thought of me and inviting me besides other family members and friends to visit the Golden Temple.

“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.” — Henri Frederic Amiel

I offer my thanks to the Almighty every day for the abundance of things in my life. As an offering to the power above me I try to visit the Golden temple every year to show my gratitude.

Three things that I have been thankful for and offer my gratitude

💙Gratitude for the things I possess

When you are grown up and are working and your circumstances are normal in the family then you are bound to begin to accumulate things according to your status in life.

I was also able to afford and live where my needs were fulfilled and also had a surplus.

At one time, I started denying my happiness at everything that was extra in my life.

Then one day I felt that instead of getting upset and denying myself the things that I receive I should be thankful for the things that I have by enjoying them as a gift from the universe.

In return, I should be grateful and help people who are less fortunate than me with their needs like services in cash or kind.

My life changed for the better and became joyful.

However, I decided that I should be careful to remember that I help the needs and not wants of other people.

I do try to distinguish and see whether the request for help is need-based or want-based and then whatever I can do I do selflessly expecting no return from anyone.

💙💙Gratitude for the people in my life

Gratitude has brought me many good people in my life. They have been helpful too.

People have stayed in my life for a long time as their purpose has been to spend time and energy with me in life.

Some people have left due to distance or change in place or a change in priorities. These thoughts of mine are very similar to a post that I read By Drashti Shroff in an article.

I am grateful that these people have spent their long innings with me as their purpose has been to be with me and stay with me till I live.

If people have left there is no malice at all. It is just that their purpose is over in my life. I accept it as a journey of life.

My parents, children, and husband and his family have been assigned to me whether we live close to each other or far places and I am in gratitude.

💙💙💙Gratitude for my education and career

I see people around me who do not have any skill or power to understand things. People who are poor or uneducated. People who do not have a job. I am grateful that I was educated and self-made being a woman from a country where men were the priority.

My parents provided me with good education and insisted on my skills be as high in standards as young men of that time.

I never had the feeling that I was less to them even though I was ribbed at being a woman who was expected to sit back and be a homemaker and have a bread earner to give me luxuries of life.

I fought for the equality of women at home and at work. I traveled where others did not dare to go.

I am not only thankful but offer my gratitude for being able to stand up for issues and act when necessary and bring several young women out of their life of disgust into being self-respecting and self-made and getting joy in their lives.

The takeaways

⭐My visit to The Golden temple brings me peace and joy. The very magnificence of the monument makes me bow my head and offer my gratitude that it has transformed my life and made it peaceful. 🙏🏼

⭐⭐ It has given me the power to accept many things in life I would not be able to do without its support. 🙏🏼

⭐⭐⭐My visit to The Golden Temple marks hope and continuance of my thankfulness practice that I do every night before going to sleep and early morning when I wake up. 🙏🏼

⭐⭐⭐⭐I am thankful that the day has been bright and happy. I focus on what I have. I am happy that the universe gives me a signal as to what is good for me and what I should avoid. 🙏🏼

To wrap up

Each time I visit the Golden temple it reminds me that I should continue my practice of being in gratitude.

This time I saw the faith in the eyes of people. The crowd was heavy as kids, young and old, and many foreigners from all over the world all waiting patiently to enter the beautiful temple.

It took an hour to enter but it taught me patience. So many people humbly paid homage.

Many people I met had come for solutions to many problems.

I bowed down to the Almighty and prayed at The Golden Temple for the people, my friends and relatives, and society at large.

Every year I have different people with me to visit The Golden Temple. Some friends came more than once with me. I am thankful to all the people who have joined me in visiting The Golden Temple every year.

The Almighty has made it possible for me to visit it and offer my gratitude. As long as this permission is granted from above I will visit it.

Thanks to Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles for this wonderful prompt when I just visited The Golden Temple at Amritsar(India) to offer my gratitude as I am thankful for many things in my life.
