There is nothing that says

Before being strong we must know

What it is to be weak

Yet it is part of the human experience

To only be able to recognize

And appreciate

Those things we know

Through comparison with

Their opposites

Weakness is not a flaw

But a challenge to rise up

And learn what is needed to

Bolster an area of lacking

With our inner resources

And reliance on those who

Accept us unconditionally

Overcoming weakness is

What builds strength and resilience

What allows us to adapt and change

Adjust, accommodate, grow

To be become so much greater

Individually and together

Surpassing what is possible

And traveling to the realm

Of what is impossible

Who’s to say a gecko might not someday sprout wings?

Just because he’s not a bird

Does not mean he is not destined to fly

And if so for him, how much more so for us?
