The Future, Unknown

A poem honouring the distances we’ve travelled while distanced and not travelling at all

Silence filled the air save for the drip drop drip drop.

The night — still as a photograph.

We sat under the stars not knowing that the skies would rage for months to come.

While the storms raged on, the sun still rose, the earth still predictably turning about its axis, sunrise, sunset, day in, day out.

That’s what brought us here, six months later, blooming in adversity.

Lucy (The Egg Girl) acknowledges that it still feels premature to be this hopeful. We as humanity still have so much to learn and change and grow from. But this is a check-point. A reminder: that repeated decisions, day in, day out, is what got us here. To think about what decisions we’re making for the future. Intentionally. She also writes weird poetry, food poetry and tiny poetry.
