Summary

The web content features a personal poem expressing gratitude and acknowledgment of the hardships endured by the author's feet, accompanied by a photograph and inspired by a challenge from Poetry In Voice.

Abstract

The website presents a creative response to a poetry challenge, where the author pens a heartfelt poem titled "To my feet,,,". This poem is a tribute to the author's own feet, detailing the neglect and discomfort they suffer, such as fatigue from extensive walking and discomfort from cold weather due to inadequate footwear. Despite these hardships, the author raises a metaphorical glass to the feet for their unwavering support. The article also includes a photograph by Anja on Unsplash, a reference to Margaret Atwood, and a blockquote encouraging the writing of poetry about feet, suggesting inspiration from those found on British Columbian beaches. Additionally, the author reminisces about a past ode to eyebrows and hints at a potential future piece. The page concludes with links to related articles on Medium about productivity and another poem titled "Snowflakes".

Opinions

  • The author feels a sense of guilt for not adequately caring for their feet, as evidenced by the description of ill-fitting footwear and exposure to cold temperatures.
  • There is an underlying tone of humor in the personification of the feet, as they are described to "scream" and "dramatically faint."
  • The author shows appreciation for the resilience and reliability of their feet, toasting to them for enduring hardships.
  • The inclusion of the poetry challenge and the reference to Margaret Atwood suggest the author values literary inspiration and engagement with the broader poetry community.
  • The author seems to enjoy reflecting on personal experiences and everyday objects, as indicated by the mention of the lost ode to eyebrows and the potential for a similar poem in the future.
  • The presence of related links to other works by the author implies a desire to share a broader portfolio of creative writing.

Challenge: write a poem to your feet

To my feet,,,

oh, my dear feet, out of sight but certainly not out of mind

you scream of fatigue if we so much as take a thousand steps

mostly because I barely support you, fitting you into $10 glorified cardboard flats.

you scream of the cold! all ten of your wiggly lil representatives dramatically fainting, losing all feeling if it so much as reaches -10C outdoors

mostly because I barely warm you denying the chillier days by delaying the undusting of my winter boots for as long as possible.

here’s a glass to you, for carrying me through these hardships all the same.

Prompted by Margaret Atwood via #PoetryInVoice.

Write a poem about your feet. Or a poem to your feet. Or about any feet. Those that wash up on British Columbian beaches, still in their shoes, might be inspiring.

I once wrote an ode to eyebrows in high school as an English assignment and have since lost my only copy, but maybe someday I’ll write its twin. Would you read it?
