GET YOUR SHOES ON

The Filth We Love to Leave Behind

Let’s pick up after ourselves | American cinquain-prose poem combo

Photo by OCG Saving The Ocean on Unsplash

It burns, filth in the air, darkness hovers, smelling choking ashes, nowhere to hide despair

damage, business wasting increase power usage streams and low-lying lands ruin careless

harmful the herbicides propellants and coolants toxic to the environment poisons

Let us put on our working “boots” and clean up the mess we left behind — in our communities, in the sustaining air we breathe, and in waterways — that provide drinking water and dampen our dry lands — remembering to treasure our natural resources — a blessing — never to be ruined and wasted — never to be taken for granted.

Written in response to Paper Poetry’s June Prompt by Indubala Kachhawa, ‘Get your shoes on and do our bit for the environment.’

Tagging a few whose articles inspired me to write this story:
