The Easiest Way to Get a Viral Story Is to Comment on a Viral Story

Sad (?) but true

My most viewed story is a response. Yes, it’s not a bug. Medium considers our responses as stories and includes the corresponding views in our stats.

Funny enough, the title of the “story” is “Hello.” How original!! There goes the legend that writers should pay attention to headlines!

I’m not a big name, and my comment has only 456 views, not 5,000. But still, it’s my most viewed story.

And it’s a slow burner. Look:

Every day I get a few additional views. Included in my stats, they make me feel good about my writing.

Even though I know it’s a lie.

The takeaway here is that you should pay attention to your comments. If they’re witty and original like mine, you could get many views, and, who knows, these readers might also want to check some of your stories!
