The Crow Moon

Transformation

“Crow Moon.” Photo ©Erika Burkhalter

A flap of wing, a slice of beak, a feathered breath rises beneath the full crow moon.

Talons, sharp, strip bark from flesh. A downy breast flashes from a green-wood nest.

Rising sap and rippling waters, bode well for spring’s endeavors.

Shiny things, like moons and rivers — nature’s jewelry, for avian beings — glitter in the luminous night.

Transformation.

Illumination.

Oracles on the wind.

South or North? East or West? Old growth or sapling grove?

Which direction will the crow fly on this full moon evening?

The Full Moon in March is known as the “Crow Moon” because it is a time for exploration and for new endeavors and crows are such masters at this. Their natural curiosity about all things glittery is well-known and the full moon in March is glittery indeed.

The March full moon is also known as the “Wind Moon” for the winds of change and the “Worm Moon” because this is when the beetles begin to emerge from the trees.

It is a time for new ventures, for innovation, and for letting “the sap of creativity” flow.
