The Charm and the Chain
A poem about the evolution of an unhealthy relationship
Take the easy road wall up the heart from what you carry inside. You have difficulty in speaking the blame that you find. It’s hard to relay past issues when they’re acting so kind.
Keep yourself healthy, don’t show any fear. The problems you have will soon disappear.
For jest or in fun, Their game is not done. You must sacrifice for them what can’t ever be won.
Lies transform truth, You have forsaken youth.
You are now tamed Locked away to be chained Their game is not finished now that you’ve been contained.
Love is distorted, In their power contorted.
You’re vital to deny the weakness you show. Your words of protest follow bouts of anger in tow. The game moves along with a horrible flow.
Upon a false bed, Forced outside of your head.
Abuse is excused for a safe world of denial. Then emotions so extreme you finally put them on trial. The lover you once knew now shows up once in a while.
Your reality is shaped By what they create.
The game continues towards an end that is known. Either for you or for them, the stakes keep on growing. An outcome of death is all you’ve been shown.
