The Changes on Medium Taught Me One Important Lesson
It doesn't go away if you ignore it

Medium has changed a lot. We now have a revamped homepage. Some changes are super cool, others, well, not so great, but what is great is that the team listens to writers when we give feedback, and that's awesome!
This one particular change reminded me of one very important life lesson. If you want something gone, you've got to deal with it. And pretending it's not there won't make it disappear either! It remains to provoke, trigger, distract, and annoy the hell out of you.
Here is what I’m talking about:
On your brand new shiny homepage, if you look at the top right corner, you will see the ‘latest from following.’ It's always the same eight faces there, and they don't seem to go anywhere.
Every time I open my homepage, it’s the same handsome faces staring at me.
I’ve been ignoring the faces because of clickbait headlines on the left side calling my attention. But when I finally click on a face, it goes away and a new face appears. Yay!
Medium has made it so the faces remain there until you do something about it!
I follow over 100 people and I like to see what everybody is up to. I like to keep up with everybody and see what interesting things people are writing about.
Moral of the story: if you want something, someone, some issue, some trauma, some drama, some inconvenience, some pest issue, some illness, some discomfort, some toxic lover/friend, or a debt gone, you have to deal with it, or it remains.
You can pretend it’s not there all you want, but It’s not going anywhere.
