“Oh my God, this is so good” Claire thought as she woofed down her third cherry filled donut. She had such a love for sugar that she just couldn’t resist the taste.

All the while, remembering what her doctor said the day before. “At this rate Claire, you won’t live to see your 25th birthday. As scary as that sounded, the thought of not being able to eat another piece of candy, cookies, sweet cakes, donuts or brownies was something she couldn’t bear.

Tomorrow was her favorite day. Wednesday at exactly 11:00 am, she would go to her favorite bakery and pick up her goodies for the week. Although, the bakery sold some organic, sugar and gluten free baked goods, Claire had no interest in those.

“Who the hell wants some organic cookies that taste like crap. “ Claire muttered to herself. Oh yes, tomorrow would be a great day.

On Wednesday morning, Claire ate three cherry filled donuts and a cinnamon roll. She tried to resist the temptation of eating another donut after the first two, but her resolve was just too weak.

She went to the mirror and gave herself a good once over and immediately felt ashamed of the 50 additional pounds she’d gained in just 3 months. Sometimes she felt like the world was against her and that sweets were put on Earth to keep her in a tortured state.

As she walked in to the bakery, she begin to sing her favorite song. “The candy man can, cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.” Just those words, brought a smile to her face and an empty feeling in her stomach.

She looked longingly through the glass at all of the beautiful pastries that were still steaming fresh from the oven. Wiping, the drool from the corner of her mouth, Claire placed her weekly order.

“I’ll have 21 donuts, 14 cinnamon rolls, 7 brownies and 7 apple fritters. The bakery assistant gave her a look of sadness and empathy as he filled her order. She looked away, knowing that he was judging her and trying her best not to care.

She quickly paid for her order and headed for the door. Claire felt a happiness that always came when she had her sugar fix in her hands. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she pulled the first donut from the package.

Just as she was about to taste the sweet breaded treat, she noticed a woman she’d never seen before coming towards the door. She nearly dropped her donut when she heard the woman singing, “The candy man can, cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.”

She felt appalled by the size of the woman doing her best to get into the bakery. Her hips, stomach, and thighs were huge and threatened to fill the door like a giant marshmallow.

Now starting at her feet, Claire looked at her from the bottom up and as she got to her face she begin to scream. Running as if being chased by a ghost, Claire dropped her package and ran for her life.

As she ran, she promised herself to never touch another sugar filled item. Seeing her own face at 600 lbs had suddenly cured her sugar addiction.
