On a sunny day, walking down the street, instead of immersing myself in my thoughts, I decided to divert my attention and carefully observe the people around me. I focused on the small interactions and details of everyday life that normally go unnoticed. This allowed me to disconnect from my concerns and appreciate the diversity and energy of the city. Gradually, I realized that there were moments of beauty amid the daily routine. I watched as people strolled at their own pace, entering stores to make various purchases.
I don’t know why, but my gaze fixed on a very elegant store, a jewelry store. Sitting at his desk, the jeweler was busy watching the people coming and going on the street through the impeccable window of his luxury store, with an expression of amusement drawn on his face.
Suddenly, a little girl approached, sticking her face to the showcase. At the sight of one of the exhibits, her light blue eyes lit up. Entering the store determinedly and shyly, the girl approached the store clerk and asked him curiously about the price and the story behind the blue pearl necklace that so attracted her attention. Then, she looked around in search of an adult to share her find and her happiness. But there was no one she knew.
After a few moments, the little girl pointed her finger at the blue pearl necklace, saying to the jeweler:
“Could you wrap it carefully in a nice way, like a gift? It’s for my sister, who takes care of me.”
When he heard what she said, the store owner fixed his gaze on the little customer and asked her:
“How much money do you have, little one?”
In a silent gesture, standing on tiptoe, she pulled a small box out of her pocket and placed it on the counter. She opened it and emptied it. There were some small bills, a handful of coins, some shells, and some figurines.
“Is it enough for the necklace?” she asked proudly, but at the same time happy. “I want to make a gift to my sister who takes care of me. Since my mother is not with us, my sister is the one who has taken her place and does everything for me, and she never has a moment for herself. Today is her birthday and I am sure that with this gift I will make her very happy. The stone of the necklace has the same color as her eyes”.
The man went to the stockroom and returned with a gold-colored paper, with which he carefully wrapped the gift, saying to the little girl:
“Take it carefully and carry it to your sister.”
The little girl left very happy, holding the gift in her hands as if it were a prize.
After about two hours, a charming woman with golden hair and captivating blue eyes gracefully entered the jewelry store. With respect and determination, she placed the box wrapped with the gold-colored paper, but already opened, on the counter and said:
“Was this necklace purchased here?”
“Yes, miss,” replied the jeweler.
“And how much did it cost?” the woman asked.
“Well, just know that the prices in this store are confidential and only relevant to the customer and me. It’s private.”
“Who bought this necklace is my sister, and she only had a few pennies.
She could never have bought such a valuable piece!”
Then, the jeweler, looking deeply at the lady, meticulously sealed the box containing the valuable gift, and carefully returned it to her, with the certainty of having created a special moment.
And then he said, “Your sister paid. She paid the highest price anyone could pay: she gave everything she had.”
This little girl didn’t hesitate to give everything she had to see her big sister happy. And you know why? Because she loved her sister.
It is uncommon in this existence for us to completely give everything we own to someone. I even see it as impossible because of our weakness as human beings. The only one who gave everything out of love to this world is God.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
