The big reveal — My April earnings
How did you do last month?

Most people join Medium as a side hustle to try and earn some extra money to top up their monthly earnings; I am no different for me; I have found a love of reading and editing; I am probably not great at either, but I enjoy it all of the same.
In my day job, I work in a pressured environment, where targets, goals and achievements are scrutinised daily; we are a continuous improvement company because we sell high-end products; this drives me to set goals on Medium.
You must understand that some people do not like putting pressure on targets on their back which I do understand. However, it does not have to be money orientated.
You could set a goal to read so many articles a week, or maybe the number of stories you publish. Why not set a goal to comment on fifty per cent of the stories you read?
Goals can be fun; find a publication that runs competitions, set a goal of entering two competitions a month, or write an article with a target publication in mind.
When I reveal my earnings a few paragraphs down, you will see I have hit a bit of a roadblock; although I am not too far away from my goal, I have fallen a few dollars short again this month.
So, what should I do? Change is simple: if I do the same things, I will get the same results, I know where I need to improve, and I will write another article about that over the coming week; the important thing is, I know how to fix this.
I set myself a goal of earning $5,000 this year, from January 1st until December 31st, meaning I would need to make $416.66 each month to hit that target, so how have I done so far?
January until March results:

As you can see from my screengrab, I earned a total of $1,179.83 over the first three months this year, I took a massive hit in February because of some personal issues, so there is some ground to now makeup.
If you divide that total by three months, my average earnings were $393.27, which has left me a show of the $416.66 that I need. However, I am confident of making this up over the year.
So what did I earn for April……..$406.34, so still a bit short of my monthly target; whilst this was ok, just $10 short is also a bit frustrating; it was maybe just one story short of hitting my target.

I need to consider that I also started a YouTube channel in April, which took me a lot of time to set up, make content, edit videos, and market. Starting from zero subscribers, as you know, is very difficult, wink, wink, nudge, nudge 😉.
So, where does that leave me overall? $1,586.17, which is an average of $396.54; what I really need is another January when I am earning above my average target.
Being $80 short over the four months makes it more difficult to claw back, so I do need to up my game this month, and I have a few ideas on how I will achieve this; wish me luck!!!
Let me know how you got on last month; I am nosey and always like to see how you are getting on; let’s inspire each other.
Please would you buy me a Ko-fi
