The Betrayal
There was a kingdom called Kandhaluru, and the king of that kingdom had conquered everywhere he stepped his foot on. The main reason behind his success was his general, who was not only a good warrior in the war but also a good strategist.
Both had conquered almost all parts of south India. On an ill-fated day, the king was dead, so obviously the kingdom’s responsibility should pass on to either his son or daughter.
But for some reason, the general wasn’t convinced that the king’s son should take the responsibilities of the kingdom as he doesn’t know anything related to operating a kingdom.
The general knew that handing out the responsibilities to the king’s son was risky for the kingdom, especially when they had enemies everywhere. Hence, the general summoned one of the great scholars in the kingdom who was also quite a trustworthy person for the king when the king was alive.
The general explained the situation to the scholar. The general also said that he wanted to take over the duties of the kingdom since the king’s son wasn’t knowledgeable of anything related to running a kingdom.
The scholar said, “no, I won’t agree to this. Generally, after the king’s death, the duties of the kingdom should be passed on to his son or daughter. How can you take the responsibility of a kingdom? What is your qualification? You don’t even have any family relationships with the king let alone being his son.”
“I know, but in these circumstances, it is quite perilous to put the responsibilities in the kid’s hands. You do know how many enemies we have around the kingdom, don’t you?” the general said.
The scholar said, “I know, but…” The general interrupted scholar’s sentence and said, “I know what you are thinking. This is not for too long. You have to train both king’s son and daughter to be able to run this kingdom. Soon after they completed their training, I will give up my rule.”
The scholar understood that he misjudged the general’s intentions, and later on, said sorry to the general — and agreed to the general’s deal.
Thereafter, the scholar started training both the king’s son and daughter. Both were pretty good learners. The scholar also enjoyed training them.
Meanwhile, the general started conquering the kingdom after the kingdom without breaking a sweat. He didn’t see whether the opposition king was young or old — poor or rich — man or woman. He just killed anyone who came in his way. His king’s wish was conquering the whole of India, and he wanted to fulfill that wish at any cost.
On the other hand, the general was very happy with the kids' training as they started learning very fast. The king’s daughter looked sharp in planning war strategies, and the king’s son looked magnificent in swordsmanship skills.
After one year, both were looking to take on the responsibilities, but still, the general was quite unsure of how effective they were with their abilities — so he had given a task to both of them to prove their skills.
The task was to capture a kingdom with all the resources they had without using the general’s assistance. They had started their homework, and used the general’s special army who were pretty agile with their fencing skills in the battle.
The general’s special army told both of them (king’s son and daughter) how they worked with their general, and how they had decimated the enemies in the battle.
Also, the army told how cunning the general was in the battle — to the point, he would even kill a kid for capturing the kingdom. At first, both of them felt distressed, but they knew he was doing this to fulfill their father’s wish.
Everything was prepared meticulously that night. The next morning, they had a battle to fight. That night, the general came to the strategy room and took half of his special army without telling any reason — both of them thought they could easily win the battle since the kingdom they were fighting in didn’t have a huge army.
The next morning, both the king’s son and daughter marched towards the battle. Their opposition was waiting for them keenly at the borders. Both armies met at the borders, and the battle had started.
For the first hour, both fought extremely hard. Till yesterday, both sister and brother thought they could easily win, but it seemed impossible for them since the entrance at the front gate was very narrow. Due to that, their army couldn’t penetrate as much as they had thought, but the war was still in the balance.
Then, the opposition started rolling the fireballs on the Kandhaluru’s army. In just a few minutes, Kandhaluru’s army started collapsing very quickly. At this rate, the Kandhaluru’s army didn’t have much time to lose the battle.
This news reached the general, and the general started marching towards the battleground swiftly. He knew an entrance where his army could penetrate through the opposition and defeat them convincingly.
He entered the battleground from the backside and started killing the opposition’s army — and in a matter of two hours, he quickly finished the job and conquered the kingdom.
The general said, “This is why I kept half of my special army with me. Anyway, this should be a lesson for you as to how you should win the battle. You shouldn’t just be intelligent and powerful when you are fighting an army, you should also be cunning with your strategies.”
“No, we knew this route, but we deliberately disregarded this route,” the king’s daughter said.
The general said, “what?”
“Do you think we don’t know how you killed our father?” the king’s son said.
“What? How could I kill your father? I am doing all this for your father’s wish. Don’t you know that?” the general said.
The daughter said, “We know all about you. Your special army told us how you killed our father.”
“You killed my father when he denied killing a kid for conquering the kingdom. You didn’t like that — your lust for conquering kingdoms overshadowed what you have been doing. He might have had the wish to conquer the whole of India, but he never wanted to kill a kid to conquer the kingdom,” the king’s son said.
“You thought killing our father was the only way to conquer the kingdom — but, how did you forget that it was betraying, not conquering?” the king’s daughter said.
“We should have killed you the moment we knew about this. No, that’s not what we have wanted. We wanted you to know how it feels when someone betrays you,” the king’s son said.
“Now that you have rescued us when we were in dire need — so it’s time to know the feeling of betrayal,” the king’s daughter said.
Momentarily, at once, she beheaded the general’s head and avenged the death of her father.
The End!
