The Best Way to Deal with Pushy Family Members

Sorry, Uncle Ted, I’m busy today…

Family members and close friends are sometimes the most difficult people to talk to.

The people who are the closest to you feel your words more deeply than those who are not emotionally attached.

I have to confess…it is very hard not to feel rejected when a family member tells you “no.”

Here are some ways that I’ve learned to soften the blow:

  • Smile, use eye contact, and use a kind voice
  • Say, “I would love to do this with you. Can we plan it for next week?”

The most important thing is to affirm that you care about them and want to be with them.
