The 5 Highly Effective Teachers Who Teach You The Best Life Lessons

Here is what you can learn from them.

When was the last time you found yourself drowning in the sea?

Life is a voyage incredibly adventurous and unpredictable. One moment you shine in the sun, and the next, you get hit by the storms only to sink with your ship.

But if you learn your lessons from the best teachers you have in your life, it will be a journey to cherish forever.

Heartbreak: It’s not the end of the world

Can you remember when your heart got broken for the first time?

It seemed like the world was over for you, right? You thought you would never meet another amazing human being like the person you just lost. I can assume that you cried a lot secretly to get over it (or maybe the memories still haunt you now and then).

But didn’t you learn anything?

Heartbreak is one of life’s great teachers. It transforms you into a mature person within moments. It opens your eyes telling the truth that you cannot live in your romantic delusion forever. Today or tomorrow, you must keep your feet grounded and experience the gravity.

D. H. Lawrence once said, “For my part, I prefer my heart to be broken. It is so lovely, dawn-kaleidoscopic within the crack.”

Who doesn’t know that heartbreaks inspire poets to create their best poetry and novelists to write their masterpieces?

With each heartbreak, you become more mature and gain more knowledge about yourself and the world around you.

It tells you a secret message, — what you hold dear to your heart may not come to you. But despite this, life goes on and it goes on well. You’ve nothing to worry about.

Empty pocket: Prepare for the unexpected

I learned how powerful a teacher an empty pocket can be when I was delayed at a station and had no money to buy another ticket to my destination. I was forced to call a friend, stay in his room, and then borrow some money from him to buy the ticket.

It was one of the most embarrassing moments in my life. It happened because I wasn’t traveling with enough money (I didn’t have enough money then, to be honest).

But you know what that empty pocket moment taught me? It gave me a life lesson that I should always travel with twice more money than what I actually need.

According to Partick Rothfuss, “There is a vast difference between having some coin and no coin. There is a feeling of helplessness that comes from an empty purse.”

He is damn right. I learned it the hard way.

I hope you had many empty-pocket experiences yourself that taught you lessons of a lifetime. Because no matter how many times we say money isn’t everything, we cannot ignore the fact that our mind stops working when our pocket is empty.

Rejection & Failure: Get used to it

Rejections give us hell by putting our confidence in jeopardy. But each rejection teaches us to improve and get closer to success.

Rejection or failure is not the end of the world. It’s just the secret sauce you need to make your wins tastier than anyone else. It’s the teacher who corrects your wrongs and takes you towards perfection.

Remember, you will get rejections on a daily basis, but what you make out of it will distinguish you from others.

And for failures, — never get your mind clouded by what you failed to achieve. Instead, keep your eyes fixed on the bright side.

Don’t forget that it took the great inventor Edison 1,000 failed attempts to light a bulb. So, it’s obvious that things will not be easy for you too.

Just get used to it.

Betrayal: The people you count on can turn into demons

Almost 20 years ago, my uncle told my father to send him a good amount of money. The reason? He told my father that he would jointly buy some land for both of them. My father trusted his brother and sent him the money.

But recently, a few years ago, I went to my native village and discovered that my uncle bought the land only in his own name. My father was nowhere on the scene. Not only that, he has already taken advances from others to whom he will sell that land soon.

When I told my father what I had discovered, everything fell apart.

My father swallowed the hard pill that his own brother betrayed him. He put all his trust in him. But sadly, his brother just took advantage of it. Now, we are not on good terms with my uncle and his family.

The lesson?

Trusting your own people is okay, but don’t trust blindly like my father. Keep your eyes and ears open. Never fully depend on others. Get involved in the process.

Because your own blood can go against you.

Let alone others.

Mistake: Without it, there is no growth

Once I fell in love with another man’s fiance. Six years ago, I spent thousands of dollars and wasted two years on a master’s degree that I despised and never finished. I worked one and a half years under a boss I truly hated. I ended the relationship with one of my close friends for silly reasons. And many more.

I did make so many mistakes, and I’ll keep continuing the same until I die. But with each mistake, I learned new lessons that no books or teachers can teach me.

Without mistakes, there is no improvement.

As the genius Einstein said, — “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”

So, try something new and make mistakes. It’s completely okay. But remember, never make the same mistake twice. Instead, improve yourself by adopting the lessons your mistakes offer.

Let the mistake be your best teacher.

Parting thoughts

Life is not meant to follow a straight line. Whether or not you like it, there will always be ups and downs.

Your heart will definitely get broken, your pocket will turn into a big zero, countless rejections and failures will give you nightmares, the people you count on will show you their back when you need them the most, and you will discover in the end that everything you did was a mistake.

But don’t be so hard on yourself.

Keep the learnings and forget everything else.

Let those unruly tides teach you how to sail. Let them guide you towards an exciting and joyful voyage.
