Mini Memoir
The Best Dollar We Ever Spent?
A single-sentence, 100-word true story
Once upon a Sunday, we went shopping for a charcoal grill, hoping for an end-of-summer sale, but the big box store was sold out of all but the tiniest tabletop/travel models, so we explored the clearance aisle and found a lime green fly swatter marked down to a dollar: Marisa quickly added it to our cart, then woke me up in the middle of the same night and asked if I’d hurry and use it, given the large size of the spider she met on the wall at 1:00 a.m. when she got up to use the bathroom.
The day after the appearance of the super-sized spider, Marisa said, “This fly swatter is the best dollar we’ve ever spent. You should write a story about it and share on Medium,” so of course I did.
I also wrote this story in 100 words to participate in the recent prompt from JF Danskin.
And I wrote it in a single sentence because I continue to enjoy writing poems and short prose pieces that are just one sentence long. like my story about taking Monroe to enjoy the ocean beach.
Thank you for reading my tiny stories, or mini memoirs. I hope you’ll enjoy writing some, too.
