The Benefits and Side Effects of Natural Products
It’s not because it’s natural that it’s good for you
More and more people turn to natural products to treat ailments or just live a healthier life. Little do they know that these natural remedies might actually end up doing more harm than good.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has been credited with a long list of benefits, including lowering blood sugar, weight loss, soothing a sore throat, settling an upset tummy, adding shine to hair, getting rid of dandruff, and brightening skin. All too often, the dangers of apple cider vinegar are overlooked.
When taken in excess or taken incorrectly, apple cider vinegar can cause severe stomach cramps, itchy skin, sore throat, and headaches. In addition, apple cider vinegar can damage tooth enamel, the esophagus, and can lead to brittle bones to name but a few.
Brazilian nuts
For breast cancer patients, Brazilian nuts are especially attractive, as they are the highest source of selenium. Since high levels of estrogen are linked to breast cancer and selenium reduces estrogen, they are the ideal nuts to reach for. Other than this, Brazilian nuts are recommended for overall improved health.
They can improve the metabolism and immune system, let a person feel more energetic, promotes bone growth and muscle function, and benefit the skin. However, Brazilian nuts should be consumed in moderate quantities. Too much selenium will cause hair loss, nausea, brittle nails, irritability, and fatigue.
Water
The benefits of drinking water are obvious. Water hydrates the body and quenches thirst. However, if you think drinking water is without risks, think again. When drinking too much water, your kidneys are getting overworked and your body manifests this type of stress with fatigue. Too much water also causes a drop in potassium and sodium. This condition will lead to muscle cramps, nausea, headaches, abnormal sweating, and diarrhea.
Green tea
Some people drink green tea for the taste of it, and others brew a cup for its numerous health benefits. Green tea is believed to reduce the risk of breast cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer, along with a variety of other cancers.
Green tea is also credited to benefit the heart, lower blood pressure, prevent kidney stones and benefit diabetes patients. Before drinking too much of this kind of tea though, one should keep in mind that because of the high dosage of caffeine, green tea can lead to irregular heartbeat, heartburn, sleep problems, vomiting, nervousness, tremors, and irritability.
Liver
People who suffer from fatigue or who are recuperating after surgery are often advised to eat liver to build up their strength. After all, the liver is said to be the most nutritious organ of an animal, rich in a variety of nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin B12, copper, and iron. Eating too much liver might lead to serious problems though. Too much vitamin A, copper, and iron might lead to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s, nausea and vomiting, bone pain, brittle bones, and vision problems.
It is safe to say that, in moderation, most people can eat and drink anything, but anything consumed in excess will lead to health problems.
