The Art of Watching a Sunset

Reciprocal Nature Prompt: Rural Mutt Edition

author’s photo

Rest in a low green field while the sun presses its warm body against the blue hills.

Fix your gaze on things that fascinate: a raucous flock of sheep, a ripple of clouds,

the blush silk blanket of falling light.

These days, we almost always watch the sunset with our dog. Maybe he notices the sky and the light — more likely, he just listens and sniffs, reveling in the presence of other animals at twilight. For our part, we delight in absolutely all of it (dog included).

Here’s another poem inspired by an attention grabbing sunset from Heather Crismond:

The sun is always interesting to watch, no matter what he’s doing (as demonstrated by Serhii Onkov):

Thanks to Sahil Patel for nudging me to revisit the above photo of my dog, taken on a walk earlier this week. 🌅
