The 5 Streams of Income that Stem from my Writing
I’m blessed to have multiple streams of income. Nowadays, having multiple streams of income is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. Writing has enabled me to diversify my income in ways that I never thought possible. Here are my five streams of income that stem from my writing, plus which one is my favorite and why!
Client work
The majority of my income comes from client work. Currently, I have two steady clients that I produce long form blog content for. I write one blog post per week for one of my clients, and I write two blog posts per week for my other client. That’s a total of 12 blog posts per month. I probably spend no more than two hours per week writing these blog posts, as little to no research is required!
12 blog posts x $200 per blog post = $2400 / mo
E-book sales
I’ve written several E-books over the years. What I love about E-books is you create them once and you can earn from them forever if the information remains relevant. My E-books range in price from $9-$29. This month so far, I’ve brought in over $150 in E-book sales. I market me E-books by linking to them in blog posts, Medium articles, and by sending out helpful emails to my email subscribers!
Services
As a freelancer, I believe it’s important to be versatile. So, I offer services such as E-book ghostwriting as well as journal design. E-book ghostwriting is simply writing E-books for clients and not taking credit for it. I don’t take on many E-book writing clients, but when I do, it’s well worth my time.
Journal design is a service I came up with after teaching hundreds of women how to design and self publish journals and other low content books to Amazon.
After showcasing my journal designs, I’d always get asked if I could create journals for others. After I saw the demand was there, I started offering journal design packages. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, I made a whopping $24,090 designing journals for clients, and I was seriously undercharging.
Today, I don’t take on many journal design clients, but when I do, I make sure to charge what I’m worth.
Course sales
Another stream that I have is from courses. I offer a course called Publish for Profit, where I teach how to design and self publish low content books to Amazon. I’ve helped well over 200 women get started with self publishing on Amazon. One of the main ways that I promote my course is through blog posts educating people on what self publishing to Amazon is, how it works, and the benefits of getting started. My five-star rated course has rave reviews and it’s something that I’m extremely proud of!
Medium earnings
I first joined Medium back in 2018. I recently took a break from the platform because I wasn’t giving it my all. I wasn’t taking writing on here seriously, and because of that, I really didn’t see too much from the Partner Program. Without being consistent, I used to bring in $30-$50 per month here on Medium. I’d like to see what my earnings will look like by staying consistent and being intentional about what I post.
