My Favorite Side Hustle to Make Money with No Money
..and how you can do it too!
I’ve been self publishing low content books to Amazon KDP since 2018. At the time of writing this, I have over 400 low content books published. I’m able to consistently earn between $1K and $3K every single month in royalties, and this is completely passive. The best part is.. I got started with absolutely no money. This is something anyone can do! So, let’s dive into exactly what I’m doing and how you can do the same!
What’s Amazon KDP?
Amazon KDP, which is short for Kindle Direct Publishing, is Amazon’s book publishing platform. Amazon allows regular ol’ folks like you and I to sign up for a free account, self publish our own books, and earn a royalty when our books sell.
So, what are low content books?
Low content books are described as books that have very little to no content inside. Journals, planners, coloring books, activity books, and log books all classify as low content books. There are endless amounts of other books to consider, but these are the most popular types. There are so many low content books that you can create to sell on Amazon. Here are a few ideas:
- Calorie Tracker
- Budget Planner
- Prayer Journal
- Recipe Book
How to get started?
These books are so easy to create. All you need to do is design a cover for your book. Once you’ve got your cover created, then you need to figure out what content is going to go inside of your book. Then, you’ll create that, which will be your interior file. Don’t worry if you’re not very design savvy, I promise, anyone can do this!
I use Canva for creating my covers and interiors, because it’s super easy to navigate and very inexpensive (you can even use the free version). Once you’ve got both your cover file and interior file that makes up your low content book, you’ll then upload both files to Amazon KDP.
Once someone purchases your low content book, Amazon will take care of the printing, packing, and shipping right to the customer. You will then earn a royalty for the sale of your book. Amazon pays out these royalties once per month. That’s what makes this side hustle so amazing. You create once and sell forever.. never having to touch a single product!

However, there’s always room for you! If you have a scarcity mindset, you won’t get very far in life. The key to being successful in this business is to stand out. You want to research the best low content book niches and create books that are unique.
