The 3 Biggest Mistakes You Can Make On Medium
Three Things To Avoid If You’re Aiming For Success On Medium
Have You Ever Made A Mistake So Crucial That You Felt Like Giving Up Was Your Only Option?
That There Was No Turning Back?
Let’s talk about some of the biggest mistakes you can make on Medium, or on any other social platform for that matter if your goals are to grow- and build an audience that resonates with your content- or work.
Write To Make Medium Your Main Source Of Income: The Medium Partner Program is great, and it gives people a decent chance to make money from their contributions. Most people will give up quickly though, because it’s difficult to earn.
It takes a lot of time, effort, and dedication to produce stories that resonate with others. It is also extremely difficult to have “decent results” as a newcomer if you only produce content without interacting with others.
Making a “name for yourself” is crucial for some type of success on Medium, and it’s easier to get recognition through the comment sections in general.
Only A Handful Of People Are Able To Make A Full-Time Living On Medium, So Don’t Think You’ll Have An Easy Time If That’s Your Goal.
Spam & Low Quality Comments: You should never try to gain traction and exposure by going around all over Medium and making comments on whatever story you end up on.
While this can lead to rapid bursts of new followers, this will only give you an increased number count and not genuine followers who’ll interact with your content over time. It can lead to rapid growth, but it will not be sustainable so I would recommend real, genuine interactions, as that is what will keep you in the “business” for a long period of time.
I recently talked about this over here.
Your Audience Decides If Your Content “Lives Or Dies”, So You Should Treat Them With Respect.
Ignoring Your Audience: Your audience, or followers if you will, is the judge and jury of each and every single one of your stories you have- and will ever publish.
Answering questions they might have if they make comments is a superb way to encourage them, and showing them respect.
Clapping on their comments is seen as a good gesture, and will make many of them happy enough to continue to interact with your content.
I do understand that it might be difficult to keep up with all the comments you get while you grow your audience, but ignoring them will only hurt you in the long haul.
