Summary

The web content describes a "choose your own adventure" style story where the protagonist declines an offer for mysterious effects to maintain a clear head for exploring a forest, only to forget their lantern at the tavern and face a choice of how to proceed in the dark.

Abstract

In the fourth drabble story arc titled "Boundless Luck," the protagonist finds themselves in a situation where they must politely decline an offer that could have "peculiar" effects, prioritizing their exploration of the forest. With a feigned smile and a fabricated reason, they manage to avoid conflict with the patron at the tavern. However, upon entering the forest, the protagonist realizes they have forgotten their lantern back at the tavern. This oversight leads to a crossroads, with options to return to the tavern and potentially face the patron again

You’re not even remotely interested in finding out what those “peculiar” effects are, but you’re not looking for a fight, either. This calls for diplomacy.

“I’d love to try them,” you say with the most genuine fake smile you can muster, “but I need a clear head to explore the forest.” You make a wide-reaching gesture with your arms. “Lots of ground to cover.”

The patron nods. He’s disappointed but seems to buy it. You head out and enter the dark woods, ready for adventure.

You try lighting your lantern only to realize you forgot it at the tavern.

Do you…
