Ten Ways to Commit to Yourself in Order to Achieve All That You Desire

What I learned in Yoga Teacher Training that has changed my life and helped me in every aspect

Author’s Personal Files

Reach, stretch, and expand I often say to my students physically in yoga class as we head into a posture. However, I know that my body, mind, and soul are intricately woven together. As I make room by stretching by body, I am also making room in my mind. If my body is not balanced it is likely I have many thoughts bouncing around in my mind which is causing my body to be unstill. It has taken me many years to realize and understand this profound wisdom, but I now know it to be very true.

The only thing standing between me and what I desire the most is my commitment to myself. Once I stop self-sabotaging, stop procrastinating, and get real with myself, which is damn straight hard to do, I know I can achieve anything I set my mind on. All I need to do is see a clear vision and set long term and short-term goals to achieve that vision. I like to attach rewards for myself when I achieve my goals so that I hold myself accountable. It is good incentive that motivates me to stay on target and be self-disciplined.

These are ten ways I have found helpful to stay true to myself and Achieve What I Desire

  1. Positive mantras such as “Dream, believe, achieve” “I am capable of all I desire” “Love conquers fear”
  2. Journal about my future self. Auto-suggestion basically says the brain does not differentiate between what our thoughts think and what is reality. So, If I journal about the future that I see then that is what will be.
  3. Practice personal acceptance as well as acceptance of others. The key to healthy relationships is to first love and accept yourself. Once I truly embraced that concept I set the foundation for healthy friendships and other relationships in my life. I started living authentically and let go of the need for external validation. Others were then naturally drawn to my energy.
  4. Trust your intuition, or gut feeling. This will keep you out of trouble and lead you in the right direction. Consider it your moral compass. As long as you tune in and listen you will never go astray. All the answers you seek are already within.
  5. Workout and Eat Well Daily. I am invested in my personal well-being. It is easy to procrastinate but it takes longer to catch up than it does to maintain. The older I get the more I care about my personal wellness. I want to enjoy life and I cannot do that without by body as my vessel.
  6. Continue my personal growth. As I coach my clients, I am also continuing my own personal growth. I love expanding my mind. I am constantly Googling different facts because I love to learn. I have no idea what I did without Google and GPS.
  7. Continue to grow emotional intelligence. I use emotional intelligence as my biggest tool as a coach and I also continuously grow my own. It is one of the most important skills in my personal opinion. I value listening to others and constantly strive to be a better listener. I also strive to better manage my emotions and triggers. Having suffered from PTSD managing my emotions is not easy. Growing emotional intelligence will also improve confidence and increase personal awareness.
  8. Challenge my personal willpower. I am a Taurus, and I am certainly bullheaded. I do not like to be told what to do. I have to really challenge my personal will power. Sometimes that means I have to challenge the urge to procrastinate. Sometimes that means I have to do things I may not want to do. Sometimes I may even have to bite my tongue. But if it gets me closer to my ultimate goal it is worthwhile.
  9. Observe free from judgement. Who am I to judge anyone? We never know what someone else has gone through. I try to practice random acts of kindness. Even extending a smile may change someone’s day. We rise by lifting others.
  10. Putting what I know into action. This is no small potatoes here my friends. The smartest people can tell you all they want but if we do not put it into action, it does us no good. These are simple steps, and you can take them or leave them. But When I started putting them into action in my own life the universe started responding and I started achieving my goals.

Yoga is a way of life for me.

Most of the philosophy I live by is inspired from the Eight Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga that I learned in my Yoga Teacher Training. Many people simply practice yoga on their mat and that is fine. For me, yoga is a way of life. The philosophy that I have learned through my training has taught me so much and led me to a life of contentment and clarity that I would not trade for anything. I still have difficult days and heartache. I make mistakes and I am of course still human, but for the most part I live by a baseline of contentment and calm. I hope that these tips will help you in the same ways that they have helped me.

I have no desire to go back to my younger years. I am so grateful for all that I have learned in my life. Each difficult obstacle has actually been a blessing because I would not be where I am now without those life lessons.

The Law of Attraction has proven very real in my life. I very much believe in thee power of my thoughts to produce the outcomes I achieve — either positive or negative. I choose to live from a place of soul over ego and love over fear knowing these results. And I am now achieving my desires faster than ever.
