Abstract

The poem "Tea with Warren" by Jenny Justice is a poignant piece that yearns for a political landscape that is inclusive and progressive, symbolized by a tea party with Elizabeth Warren and Tzynya. It speaks to the desire for a Super Tuesday that embodies the dreams of poets and progressives, free from the constraints of centrism, sexism, and political gamesmanship. The purple tablecloth represents unity and the shared vision of a better future, acknowledging the pain and misogyny experienced by women in politics. The poem is a call to sustain hope and action despite the challenges faced by women who have tried and are tired, hoping for a time when things will improve before it's too late.

Transport me to tea With Warren and Tzynya

Transport us to a Super Tuesday that Is truly super

That is all mermaids and pearls Cookies and cream

That is a poet and progressive’s dream Transport us to tea

That is free from the mansplain Free from the dumb down

Free from the wait your turn Free from centrists, cowards and clowns

Transport us to tea with A purple tablecloth

To match our purple lips and nourish Our purple visions

Even when it hurts to smile The rage stains, the misogyny is scalding

Even when we know the tea, are the tea, have the tea And are told to shut up anyway

Transport us to tea that will Sustain us and sustain our hopes that things

Will go better next time Before all of the time runs out.
