Tanka of Gratitude For My Medium Mentor
Dedicated to The One Who Inspires Me Everyday

This is my first attempt at writing a Tanka and I want to dedicate it to the one who unintentionally inspired me to try it.
My heart so grateful I found you on Medium Learning and growing I’m paving way to success I’ll reach my goals very soon!
I was unaware of this style of Poetry, in fact, I must admit, I don’t know any style of poetry.
I always thought,
‘what’s the big deal to write an article, essay, or even poetry?’
It’s just a matter of knowing the right grammar, sentence formation, and the right set of vocabulary.
Had I not met this person, I wouldn’t have known many writing techniques.
Although his articles are out of my scope of understanding, I still read all of them.
Do you know why?
Because, with each article that I read, I learn something new.
I know it will take me years to be able to understand the ideas that he pours into his writings, but I’m still happy with the fact that I’m in the direction of learning new things.
Who?
The person I met through Medium by chance. A great reader I must say.
Why?
He had my attention when he read one of my 2-series articles. The way he read it and tried to understand my emotions behind the writing was clearly visible through his comments.
With each passing day, he was climbing the ladder of respect in my heart. Be it guiding me in my writing or informing me about my mistakes, his style of explaining is phenomenal.
When?
It was my early days on Medium when I replied to one of his comments on one article requesting him to read my articles.
The way he replied to it was extraordinary. Without showing his frustration he was able to convey the message that he doesn’t like such things, at the same time he also understood my intention behind the comment.
I myself couldn’t have interpreted my intention so well, from that comment of mine.
Wondering what that comment and his reply were? Have a look:
My comment:
Hey Marcus,
Would you mind visiting my profile and read few article that might interest you?
In this follow for follow race, I’m looking for someone who can do READ for READ so that we can find right people of our interest and follow them. :)
His reply:
I’ll take a look. I don’t engage in follow for follow or clap for clap etc. Even if I did choose to follow you, that’s still not likely to cause the algorithm to push your stories to me. What you really want are subscribers and I’m very picky about who I subscribe to so my email doesn’t get inundated.
His Interpretation of my comment:
I was a bit disappointed that her comment had nothing to do with my comment but I felt that her energy was not ill-intended and actually reasonably well intended and I decided to check out her profile, replying to her, ‘I’ll take a look.’… I found two stories in her profile worth reading and responding to…. Today I found two newer ones there that I enjoyed reading. I think you would too.
Isn’t it beautiful?
PS: I only knew a few weeks ago about the way he understood me on that comment. I started admiring him long before that.
Well, I am not the only one admiring him. There are many people who think the same about him. Here are two examples to support my statement:
