Taking a Break From a Fresh Perspective
The world needs people who retreat from the world in order to see it more clearly.― Patrick Shen
Two months ago, I wrote an article titled Why I Take A Mindful Break From The World: A Simple Guide. The article had resonated with several people. Unlike many of my articles, I did not write it from pure inspiration. I had seen a writing prompt which I could relate to. I altered it and viola! Here is the full article.
Today, I am watching a video on YouTube and my mind flashes back to the same article. The content creator is talking about the essence of time-outs and how they generate fresh ideas. He also talked about how time-outs give confidence boosts.
This creator lost a great mentor, and it affected him psychologically. So he reached out to some of his friends and team members. He invited them over to his place for some housewarming. Then, a couple of days later, he took a trip to Europe to go see his mum. While on this trip, he enjoyed family and the beautiful scenery and shared pictures with his friends. He is back home now with a boost in his morale.
Time and time again, I have talked about how tough life has been for me in North America. It was hard for me to see light at the end of the tunnel. It took a longish trip back home for me to get a breather. Not only that, but I also gained lots of fresh perspectives.
You might not need to go thousands of miles across the sky but first decide; “I need my time out.” It could be time away from work or family life or a toxic relationship. Usually, you might recognize it when you are frequently sad, demotivated, or detached. All you need is time out.
You could change your environment, call and visit a friend you have not seen in ages, try something new. The point is, do not get stuck in the gloominess. You don’t have to. The answers you seek might come while you are away at your retreat.
You could have writer’s block or just not feel like forcing that story’s end. Step away and go do something else. Whenever you return, something will have changed.
