Take Responsibility for Your Own Happiness

Never put it in other people’s hands

In this article, I won’t discuss why we need to take responsibility for our own happiness. I will be sharing an interesting insight that probably you never looked deeply upon.

Our day-to-day activities are dependent on the work we are given by our bosses, the part of the work our partners don’t do or can’t do, the parties we have to attend because our friends invited us, or the religious rituals we need to follow because the Father, the Pope, or the Pundit told us God is calling.

In any case, there are hardly a few things that we do because we want to do it. Most of them are influenced by other’s actions. We just react. Probably they are reacting to our reactions as well. And the process repeats itself over and over again.

You are unhappy because your bosses shouted at you. But he is just reacting based on either your previous actions or maybe his wife’s actions. Maybe he had family issues. All I want to say is your feelings aren’t based on what you do, rather the actions of the people close to you.

Now, because we are doing what we have to do rather than what we want to, our happiness doesn’t depend on our wants anymore.

Our happiness is directly or indirectly influenced by other’s actions. Same way, that person’s happiness depends on our actions too.

It’s confusing. Yet, that’s the reality. We are all interconnected. Everything is connected to each other.

So, as long as we don’t love our work, our bosses, our partners, and our Gods, we can’t be happy. We are heavily reliant on them and their acts.

The moment we stop loving the people and the things that influence our everyday lives, we will be unhappy.

The only way to take responsibility for our happiness is by choosing the right partner, the right boss, the right friends, and the work that we love to do.

“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” ― Marcel Proust
