Take It With a Pinch of Sliced Bread
Does it need to be funny to count?
On the thirteenth floor, Miranda entered the elevator.
It was the sign Jake was waiting for; right before smashing the emergency stop button, he said, “I’m sure you all are wondering why I’ve gathered you here today.”
Everybody looked at him, surprised to see a dog talking. Looking at his owner, Miranda, for approval, Jake continued, “well, the answer is simple, one of us is a spy from Llamaland.”
“Oooooh,” the group said.
“But we are all anthropomorphic llamas here, except for you,” someone replied, “and this elevator is at the heart of Fuego, the capital of Llamaland. How could we be spies for the country we live in?”
Jake became nervous and bit his tail. Had he been tricked?
“What about this llama in the corner?” Jake replied, pointing at the giant in the southeast corner. “He’s humming the famous spy anthem, ‘take it with a pinch of sliced bread,’ doesn’t it look suspicious to you?”
Turning towards Jake, the giant llama smiled and slowly took a juicy bone out of his left pocket.
“You can’t do that!” Miranda shouted, her ears filled with premonitions.
“Watch me,” the giant replied, opening a window and throwing the bone outside.
Jake, forgetting this was an elevator, followed through and disappeared into an alternate dimension where, thanks to a secret message hidden inside the bone, he later became the Dog King.
“My name is Llowoll, and I’m indeed a spy. I tricked Miranda and Jake into thinking they were the main characters of this intervention, but I am the one who gathered you all here today.”
“But WHY?” the group shouted with remarkable unity.
“Well, this is going to sound a bit strange, but I’m about to become a dad, and I would like to ask for your help with the jokes.”
Thank you for the prompt, Bradan Writes Stories. I tried to write this story as a long dad joke. See the subtitle for more details!
