Synesthesia

Moments of wider sensing

Photo by Jackson Simmer on Unsplash

Seeing sounds, hearing aromas. Mixing senses. Black letters are multi-colored. She smells images.

The frequency of a sound increases, and there it is; an intense red is born, as “hear” and “see” in the brain are kissed.

A soft surface tastes like whipped cream. She caresses silk sheets, and her tongue senses sweet dreams.

A melody is visible; its notes dance before her eye. Eleni Karaindrou’s “By the sea” has now a figure undying.

Reading a poem is often widened up, becoming an experience enriched, beyond the usual.

It’s not congenital, it’s not here by birth; her brain was just challenged by her Self.

She surrenders when it’s happening, watching in parallel from the sky-land two mixed but distinct conditions performing a tango dance.

Eleni Karaindrou’s music accompanied me while I was writing this poem. To me, she is one of the best Greek composers.
