Supply
A dystopian drabble

Finn dismounts the moped, hurries to the top floor. Double doors carved with trees. He knocks.
“Password?”
”Hippocampus.”
A hatch closes. Thirty seconds pass. The trees part.
Inside, Finn sniffs. A woman at the door is smoking; the smell reminds Finn of marshmallows. She exhales slowly. “What’s up Buttercup?”
He spreads his hands.
Then McSween arrives, eyes glowing. “Finn! Perfect timing. Lifesaver. The power supply?”
Finn shakes his head. “So sorry, buddy. They’re out.”
“Out? But when…?”
Finn sighs slowly. “Uh… they’re not making any more, man.”
McSween’s jaw drops, and then slowly, the glow in his eyes dims.
Thanks for reading! This is a response to The Hodgepodge Challenge by Sweet Chaos. The story is a drabble, a 100-word story (including the title… but in this case, not the subheading and kicker. We are on Medium, after all!)
